Dr. Caryn Lynn Garriga, MD

I had a deeply disappointing experience with Dr. Caryn, a pediatrician who seemed to take advantage of our vulnerable state during a challenging time. We were aware that she does not accept insurance, and we were okay with that when we made the appointment. However, her office recommended a genetic test, assuring us that it would only cost around $300 to $400 out of pocket. We agreed to proceed, trusting that we were making an informed decision. To our surprise, after completing the paperwork, they asked for our insurance information, claiming it might help with costs. This felt misleading from the start. Weeks later, we received a staggering bill for $3,951, even after our insurance covered 80% of the total cost. This experience has left us feeling exploited and frustrated, especially during a time when we were already emotionally drained. I urge others to think twice before stepping into Dr. Caryn's office, as it seems that financial transparency and ethical practices are not a… priority there. It's crucial to be cautious and fully understand the potential costs before proceeding with any recommendations.

I am really surprised by any negative comment given to Dr. Garriga. I have two children that are on the spectrum and she has been absolutely wonderful to us. She is incredibly patient and understanding of our family as a whole and goes out of her way to call or email me after hours to communicate important information regarding my children's care. I believe that the negative reviews may be coming from emotional parents that are devastated by not-so-great news (totally understandable). Hearing that your child has any disability is very difficult to absorb, and there really is no great way to deliver that kind of information.

I do NOT trust this doctors opinion regarding my child with autism.

I love Dr. Garriga and her partner Dr. O'Grady. Her staff is very friendly, her diagnoses are always on target. She never rushes me and engages really well with my kids. Would highly recommend her!

Dr. Garriga is our second opinion and where our family finally felt understood. My husband and I exhaled when she explained what was going on because it finally made sense. Was it blunt, yes, however it was accurate and most importantly to our son he felt understood. I recommend her every chance I get, she is friendly, compassionate, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful on this road we are traveling. We will always be grateful to Dr. Garriga for the guidance she provides both physically, psychologically, and emotionally to our entire family.

My husband and I have 2 boys with special needs. Dr. Garriga has been a supportive and informative resource for our family. She has made recommendations regarding therapy that has significantly impacted our boys' lives. She is patient with them during examinations and gives them the time they need to process what she does and says to them. Dr. Garriga is an advocate for our boys and their overall health and quality of life. We are extremely fortunate to have her as our pediatrician.

I am reading the other low reviews and have a couple of things to say about them. I have seen Dr. Garriga numerous times and she diagnosed my child with Autism. Having a kid with a developmental delay is always scary and sad and I am not really sure there is ever a good way to tell parents about it. I actually appreciated the fact that she didn't sugar coat anything with me. She gave me the facts, told me of programs and services I could use and tips for at home. What else do we really want from her? Is she supposed to cry with us and hold our hands? And for the doubters, I actually did get a second opinion. And her diagnosis was completely accurate. Not to mention once I said I had already been to her it was almost a closed case because she is quite reputable in St. Louis. Anyway, hearing things about your kids is never easy but I honestly don't know of a really great way to do it.

I understand the almighty dollar runs even the medical profession, but charging me $50 for cancelling an appointment is certainly enough to force me to find another doctor. There are just too many qualified doctors to choose from to stand for this. Not showing up for an appointment without calling first, or cancelling appointments on multiple occasions, I could (possibly) understand that. But this is ridiculous. There's no inquiry into the reasons for cancellation, just a bill arriving in the mail that is larger than my co-pay. Bedside Manner 101. Whatever happened to patient service? Aren't doctors paid well enough already? Is that extra $50 really worth losing a patient for years to come?

My daughter was referred to her for an autism screening. I was told it would take 2-3 hours as they would do multiple testing through playing and other techniques.Instead, I was handed an M-CHAT questionnaire to fill out and had to keep my cranky toddler entertained while we were waiting over 1 hour for the appointment with no explanation for why there was an obnoxious wait.When we were finally called back, the doctor spent approximately 1 hour with us. The first 20 minutes she spent asking me questions. The next 10 minutes she spent with my daughter actively engaging her. The next 30 minutes were spent telling me how low functioning my daughter is, but there is this amazing 40-hr week boot camp style ABA therapy program that could help her and what do you know, my insurance pays for this $80,000/yr program in full. I am not the only person she's done this song and dance with, so please be weary if your child is being screened for autism and your child has Tricare Prime. Get a 2nd… opinion or better yet, ask for another screening doctor to begin with when they put in for your referral.Six months later she was evaluated by a military developmental pediatrician at another base. They found her report to be inaccurate. My daughter has autism but she's not as low functioning as the doctor reported her to be. In fact, she's exactly the opposite.
