Our recent visit to the pediatric emergency department at Morristown Medical Center, specifically under the care of Dr. Cassie Jourdan, was unfortunately a deeply unsettling experience. We arrived seeking urgent care for my 16-year-old son, who was suffering from bloody diarrhea and a fever following a 10-day course of antibiotics. Given the severity of these symptoms, we were expecting a thorough examination and prompt treatment. However, Dr. Jourdan’s assessment quickly concluded that this situation did not constitute an emergency. She mentioned the option of bloodwork but with a disclaimer that it would not influence the care plan. This approach left us feeling that our concerns were not being taken seriously, and we decided to seek medical attention elsewhere. The interaction with Dr. Jourdan was marked by a lack of empathy and professionalism. Her demeanor came across as condescending and dismissive, adding to our distress rather than providing reassurance or support. This… experience not only heightened our anxiety but also forced us to question the care provided. The aftermath of this visit was significant. My son was eventually diagnosed with a condition that indeed required emergency intervention, which we received at another medical facility. The delay in receiving the correct diagnosis and treatment prolonged my son’s suffering and potentially exposed him to serious health risks. Moreover, this ordeal resulted in unnecessary financial strain on our family and our insurance. Our expectation from a medical professional, especially in an emergency setting, is a comprehensive evaluation and a compassionate approach to patient care. Unfortunately, our experience with Dr. Jourdan fell short on both these aspects. I believe that providing this feedback is essential for the potential improvement of patient care and communication in the future. I plan to share this review on the CMS website and other relevant platforms to raise awareness and advocate for higher standards in healthcare service.
