Dr. Catharina Hyunui Kang, MD

Thanks to Dr. Kang I already see a big difference. I am a 60 year old male. I can sit in a meeting now and not rush to make a comment and not feel so competitive. I thought it was everybody else that were competitive and unfriendly. That doesn't seem to matter now. I am focusing on myself now rather than other people. I feel more relaxed. And kinder towards myself and others. My girlfriend, adult children and people at work see the difference. I strongly recommend Dr. Kang.

I have been going through a difficult period and Dr. Kang from the very first session had me experiencing a whole new way of looking at my problem. We don't just talk. She has me noticing my emotions in my body and identifying and questioning the stories that take me down the rabbit hole. She has me practicing things between sessions. Very grateful.

I was very satisfied with the therapy I got from Dr. Kang. I was going through a very difficult time and she would get back to me by phone when I needed the extra support between sessions. She hasn't ever given me advice or homework. I thought that's what I wanted but I value the empathy and help with figuring things out together. My wife has seen her too and she says she was skeptical at first but got more helpful insight than she ever got with other therapists.

My review is to help others find a good therapist. I am sure she has helped others, but my experience was not positive. I found that through my sessions I was the only one talking and it was very difficult to get her to talk and discuss a plan or give advice for tools of improvement. If you want just to talk to someone and be validated, she is fine for that. If you want a therapist to be interactive and provide tools for improvement, she is not that. I felt like I left worse than I started.

I thought I wanted advice but realized that's all I get, solicited and unsolicited advice. What I value and got from Dr. Kang was help in understanding myself and using my understanding to change.

I was impressed at how much Dr. Kang was able to help with my panic attacks and rages. Objective, kind, said things and asked things that put me at ease and got me to open up and explore things. The epiphanies were unexpected and so mind blowing. Unstructured, no homework so you might feel at a loss at times to know what to say. But it worked incredibly well for me.

Dr. Kang is a very kind lady and I have recommended her to friends and to my teen daughters.

Dr. Kang is a careful and engaged listener who is attuned and able to hone in on underlying challenges. She is truly interested in me as a person and in understanding and solving my problems in a practical way. She knows how to "dig" in a gentle, evocative way. No problem with billing and everything was handled professionally.

Dr. Kang worked with me for almost a year and I enthusiastically recommend her to others. My therapy with her was not a quick fix but it taught me the best skill of all: How to get unstuck by thinking about things differently. She is an excellent, empathetic listener who was able to help me overcome some life long relationship difficulties that came out in my relationships with co-workers. I was able to understand so much about myself, including why I avoided people and lived like a recluse, why I walked around with a negative attitude all the time though I used to deny it when it used to be pointed out to me, and why I most of all couldn't be vulnerable with anyone. Now, I can relax and enjoy being around people. I still have a hard time with my family but I'm beginning to see them more clearly, as individuals doing their best given their histories. I would definitely see Dr. Kang again if I have any serious setbacks.
