Dr. Catherine Cameron Beckman

Dr. Beckman was a very attentive and caring surgeon. I would recommend her to everybody facing breast cancer!!!

I would not recommend Dr. Beckman. She seemed fine at first but my first surgery was a port & knowing how ports work from family members having to have them for their cancer treatments, this one was the wrong port for my needs (as I was told by the lab techs after it was put in)&/or some thing was wrong with it or the way it was inserted, because every time it was used it presented problems. Then She did a bi-lateral mastectomy with a skin salvage (she complained about the skin salvage the reconstruction surgeon requested)& I know she must have only observed students at U.W. Madison Hosp or did some thing herself, because the side that had the cancer has more tissue left than the other side that was removed for preventative purposes. She showed up the day of my surgery late, arms full of a purse,tote bag & books etc., & whisking around trying to gather what surgery I was scheduled for. I asked when it was normal for a port to be removed & she said "we can do that now" & had papers… brought to me to sign. I found out later as I needed the port, she removed it way too soon as she did with my post-op tubes. Removing both the port & the drain tubes early cost me a lot of money & discomfort. I had to have fluid removed from my chest 4 times & did some weeks of therapy for the fluid build up. This made the radiation treatments to be postponed also for a number of weeks. Her bed side manor & post operative manners were cold & insensitive, & I felt very unimportant in here spectrum of things to get done. As she raced in late the day of my surgery, she rushed in & out for every appointment there after. I never felt I was being cared for or about by her but her nurse & staff were very the opposite. I am seeking reconstructive surgery else where.
