Dr. Catherine Buerchner, MD

Stay clear of this ob/gym uncaring aloof. If I could rate her less than 1 star I would. There are so many better choices fort ob/gym care I don’t understand how anybody would want to see this uncaring MD I guess you can if you just want to be a number for her work load

She delivered 3 of my babies! She was very knowledgeable, caring and was calm . My husband and I are very impressed and I would definitely go to her if I need to deliver another baby! She is the best!

Dr. Buerchner is the best! She is very knowledgeable and to the point. She may not be for the people who like things sugar coated, but I would take someone who will tell it like it is any day.

Dr. Buerchner took great care of me during my pregnancy. She was calm and took time to answer all of my questions. I am referring all of my friends to her, as I feel like she really understood me.

I had Dr.Buerchner as my OBGYN for a couple of months before I became pregnant and for the entire pregnancy with my first child. As it was my first pregnancy, I was anxious and had many questions. I felt that Dr. Buerchner could have spent more time with me and be a little more proactive in asking how things were with my pregnancy. On one appointment with her, I had to sort of stop her from exiting the room to ask my last question on the list I had in a short visit. I saw Dr. Buerchner only three times during my entire pregnancy and saw a few nurse practitioners for the rest of my appointment, which was fine with me as they all were professional and were willing to spend time and listen more so than the doctor. I think Dr.Buerchner is caring and professional, but she seemed busy like many other doctors are. I had no problems and no high risk pregnancy, and I think that there were nothing to worry about in the eye of the doctor. In the end, I thought to my self that doctors are… specialized in medical aspect of the care, but not necessarily nurturing. If there were any medical issues, then that is when I would expect them to use their expertise. Otherwise, I should go to a mid wife. This is just my experience, and I am sure everyone's is different under the same doctors and a similar care.

This is my second pregnancy followed by Dr. Buerchner. I did have twins in between these two pregnancies, which was followed by another OB practice affiliated with Sharp Mary Birch. The care there was very perfunctory and I felt like part of a cattle herd (always saw a different doctor at every visit). I returned to Dr. Buerchner for this current pregnancy, and she has been fantastic. I have seen her for every visit, and she is thorough and takes the time to answer all my questions. Importantly, whenever I call the office and leave messages, I always get a timely call back, either from Dr. Buerchner or her nurse, Linda. Furthermore, given my advanced age, Dr. Buerchner referred me to Scripps Perinatology for my ultrasounds (e.g., first trimester screen, growth ultrasound), and they are excellent there too. So- I am very pleased with the good, comprehensive care that I receive from Dr. Buerchner's office and her referrals (e.g., genetic counseling, perinatology). One thing that I have… noticed (especially when comparing with other pregnant women) is that Dr. Buerchner and her office have NOT dropped the ball on a single thing during my entire pregnancy. They have caught my anemia issue and treated it appropriately. This was not my experience at the other OB practice- where they missed several important labs. At my sister's swanky PPO office, they failed to have her complete the first trimester screen, despite her age of 41! I am confident this would not have happened at Dr. Buerchner's office. Finally, as I'm nearing the end of this pregnancy, I have had to seriously consider a VBAC vs. Repeat C-Section. Dr. Buerchner has been helpful in talking to me and my husband about this delicate issue, even allowing me to have my last growth ultrasound/consult done at Scripps Perinatology. Needless to say, I'm pleased with my good, solid, comprehensive care at Dr. Buerchner's office...which, after all, is the most important thing when trying to carry a healthy baby to full term.

Dr. Buerchner is intelligent and caring which is a perfect combo for an Ob/Gyn. She delivered both of my children at Scripps Memorial La Jolla. My pregnancies and delivery experiences were wonderful. I recommend her highly to everyone I know!
