Dr. Catherine Ann Cummings, MD

Full disclosure, I work at RIH and I am familiar with many of the doctors who work in the ER there and at Miriam. Based on her credentials, I thought Dr. Cummings was one of the better ones on staff. However, on a recent night when she took care of a family member in my absence, my opinion has changed. My family member was in the ER for more than 3-4 hours without any updates. Due to Covid-19, I was not able to go in with them. Dr. Cummings seemed to have her mind made up about my family member’s condition based on previous visits and not spending more than a few minutes with her. Luckily there were no serious issues, but I wish the doctor had spent more time with my wife and had listened to my concerns. My insurance was certainly billed enough for our time there.

If this doc, President of the RI Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians, steps into your ER cubicle, refuse treatment from her. Her one star rating is deserved. Hands off, standoffish, eyes lit up when I asked if I was ready for pain management, being in pain, I said yes. Clearly I was baited because I received one percocet and sent home. Was in the room for 20 seconds, touched my leg and charged me $600.00. Maybe she sees too many drug addicts but my subsequent MRI showed a lot of damage. I always liked Miriam's ER. Not anymore. This doc left me with a really bad impression, thinking that something really bad had changed in the ER.
