Dr. Catherine Marie Thornburg, MD

I will NEVER recommend this doctor. My cousin went to see her yesterday and the entire time she made rude and unprofessional comments about my sisters weight stating that she “isn’t exactly skinny” and she isn’t going to prescribe her what she went in for because she “obviously doesn’t need to gain anymore weight.” The ENTIRE VISIT was filled with snide comments like this. And for a reference, my cousin is not a big girl but not that it would matter. There are correct ways to say things and wrong ways too. The amount of disrespect she portrayed was absolutely ridiculous.

Dr. Thornburg has been my doctor for several years. She has always been very friendly, professional, and thorough. She tries to help her patients feel comfortable and takes time to listen to any concerns with a caring attitude.

I have to build up courage to go see the OB/GYN as it is my least favorite thing to do. However, I have been many times in my life and never had the doctor laugh at me for the pain she inflicted. She said "we aren't 14 anymore". Whoa. It is my body and I will be taking it to some other doctor who treats it with kindness.

They scheduled 3 people at the same time so i had to wait over 45 min for them to call my name. had to pay out of pocket for a special test. my insurance then went and paid it but the Dr office never called me to tell me they owed me money back. When i figured it out and called, they owed me over $200 and told me they would mail me a check that would take 30 - 50 days to arrive. its been 60 days.. and still waiting.

I used to use Dr. Hirsch in the practice. I loved him but he stopped delivering babies. So when I got pregnant recently I switched to Dr. Thornburg. She's nice enough and the wait time is certainly longer than I'd ever waited for Dr. Hirsch. But her nurse is quite cold. She returns calls quickly but lacks compassion. Dr. Thornburg seems knowledgeable and friendly but ultimately doesn't make me feel as comfortable as I wish I felt with my OB.

I have been going to Dr. Thornburg for over 10 years and even after returning back to the area, immediately went back to Dr. Thornburg as a patient. Both she and her nurse Diane are busy and very business like so if you need a lot of hand holding this may not be the office for you. She has always taken the time to answer any questions and I feel very comfortable with her level of care. Wait times can be a bit long but I've learned to schedule early in the day before it gets too backed up. Over the years I've recommended three persons to her, including my mother. Only one said she would not go back. The others are still with her.

She is a good doctor. I feel I have to remind her of who I am every time I go. The nurse is very unfriendly and always sticks me in some room to wait for the doctor. I would think being a woman and working in a field all about women the nurse would be a little friendlier.

looooonnnngg wait......doctor spends few mins .....staff rude.....not worth it

I've been a patient of Dr. Thornburg's for 10 years, and she's definitely a no nonsense, business-minded doctor. While I do like a doctor who is efficient and can stay calm under pressure... you will have to have tough skin to deal with her staff.For the most part my visits were fast and routine. But I will would give her fast action and professionalism during my miscarriage an A+! The biggest problem I had with her care was that after my miscarriage, she put me back on birth control. And I had to remind HER that she took me off of the birth control because it gives me high blood pressure (hello, it's also right there in my chart!). I have since come to the conclusion that is not good doctoring. I'm changing doctors this year partly because I moved to Murfreesboro and when I get pregnant, I don't want to have to drive into Nashville. But I'm also changing docs because I think there are other smart docs out there with a little more time to get to know their patients.

Several months ago, I had an appt with Dr. Thornburg. After waiting for 55 min in the main waiting room, I was taken to a smaller waiting area and sat there for an additional 30 min (with no one offering any type of explanation or apology for the long wait!). After 85 min of waiting, I finally had to leave without being seen at all. I had to get back to my job. So, I had just wasted my entire lunchbreak, AND I would be late getting back to work because I hadn't planned on the appt taking over an hour and a half, AND I would have to schedule it all over again!! I called to complain/ reschedule a few days later and spoke with the nurse. I got the impression that it was not unusual for patients to have to wait over an hour for Dr. Thornburg because she's "such a great dr and has lots of emergencies". I felt like the message was that I should feel LUCKY to be a patient and should just be happy that I have an appt at all. Well....Dr. Thornburg might be a smart doctor, but a "great"… doctor understands that patients have jobs and responsibilities and schedules too! I always expect to wait about 30 min for any dr's appt, and I plan around it with my job. But, if ANY dr thinks that he/she is so special that patients should EXPECT that the dr will be over an hour late for the (pre-scheduled) appt!? Give me a break! There are PLENTY of other "smart" doctors in Nashville to choose from. This is one that I will not be going back to see ever again.
