Dr. Cathy Jo Cantrell, MD

We were referred to Dr. Cantrell after testing positive for Down syndrome in a screening test to further see if our baby would have DS or not. The ultrasound tech was wonderful to work with she told us there were no precursors which is a good sign but not definitive. Dr. Cantrell walks into the room, without even saying hello of introducing herself goes thru the ultrasound while making negative comments about her staff. She told me even tho there were no signs to DS it didn't change a thing and an amnio was the only way to tell for sure. After telling her we were not going to do an amnio because it wasn't a risk we were willing to take to miscarry she didn't even acknowledge that we had spoken to her. She then had me take a MaterniT 21 Plus test,a blood test to check for DS (which she also told me WOULD be covered by my insurance--quite the surprise when I got a bill that was NOT covered for $2762.00 that we are trying to fight). She told me WHEN my test came back positive I needed… to one back foran amnio and IF by chance it came back negative that there was still probably something wrong with my baby. Dr. Cantrell made me feel worse than before we saw her. She was a very horrible woman to work with and was very rude to us. We felt like she didn't want to hear what we had to say nor did she answer our questions. She was very rude to her staff as well. I have NEVER seen a health care provider with such a little heart. She has no care for her patients and I truly have no idea how this horrible woman is still in practice let alone has anybody who has enough patience to see her after one appointment with her or who has enough patience to work for her.

I wouldn't recommend Dr. Cantrell to anyone. She was the hardest person to talk to about health concerns and she refused to work with my nutritionist of choice. Refusing to work with other doctors was the first bad sign. After the first visit I never heard from her again until her staff assistant called to get blood readings. Dr. Cantrell increased my medication without discussing them with me causing me to pass out at work. I tried discussing my health concerns about how it affected my baby. She didn't like hearing someone else's opinion on treatment and refused seeing me as a patient over the phone when i questioned medications. The only follow up I received from Cantrell was a certified letter in the mail making it sound like I relieved her as my doctor and if I had any medical concerns that I need to seen by her office. I've never seen a doctor so unprofessional try to protect her medical practice after misdiagnosing a patient by firing them and sending certified letters in the… mail trying to make me look like the bad guy. The door on her office should read,"I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone."

Dr. Cantrell is the only Periontologist in Reno that I would recommend. She is extremely caring and professional. Her office staff is welcoming and kind.

Dr. Cantrell is a great doctor. I had a bad experience with another Perinatologist in Reno and found Dr. Cantrell and her staff to be night and day different than the other clinic. She is smart, caring, and professional. I have a high risk pregnancy and have received excellent care from Dr. Cantrell and my OBGYN. She was willing to see me in the hospital one night (emergency) so that I wouldn't have to see the doctor on call (that I hadn't met). Her office staff are wonderful and the office is very inviting. Dr. Cantrell's diabetes nurse/specialist is fantastic and very personable and smart.
