Dr. Cecil Henry Chally, MD

Dr. Chally is the most attentive and caring physician I have had the pleasure of meeting. He is one of the last of a dying breed of physicians that takes time to know his patients, he so caring that he has been known to give his longterm patients his phone number so they can get a hold of him if they have a concern. It will be a great loss when he does retire because no one can even come close to him.

The staff is very nice and friendly, ease of making an appointment is good. The time with the dr is very limited though. He did ask if I had any questions, but the answers were very topline and cursory. More of the old-fashioned "I'm the doctor, just do as I say" than giving answers as to why. It's my body and I want to understand reasons and risks before moving forward to the next step.

You go to a doctor completely prepared and self-aware and also doing everything you should be doing for your condition and you are treated with not only ambivalence but almost contempt. This describes my appointment. Dr. Chally didn't listen to what I said and insulted me by insinuating the stress I was under was some personal problem and not due to being extremely debilitated by my condition. He didn't care about how bad my condition was and made a pathetic suggestion to improve it. The more I thought about what happened the more appalled I was! I was under the impression that when you are educated about your condition, speak clearly and succinctly about your symptoms and display a professional appearance and demeanor you would be treated with some decency; that was my previous opinion from seeing other doctors. Now I feel just like all the other IBS patients who are treated with uninterested condescension after my visits with Dr. Chally and his colleague Dr. Fine.

The man is knowledgeable but has no people skills and seems to hate answering your questions and once he has had his say he just wants to get out of there. While I was waiting for him, I could hear him in the next room going on and on about his upcoming vacation in Hawaii.

I think that Dr. Chally is excellent !Have seen him for well over a decade.I have a complicated medical HX due to a chronic illness and he has always taken time w/ me to explain how the non-gastroenterologic illness may be related to the G.I. problems that I'm seeing him for, etc. HATE going to doctors, in general, but have no problem with visits to him.The only complaint that I have is having been referred to his PA ( physician assist. ) a few times... I did not feel that she was equipped to handle my problems, nice as she was.Would recommend this doctor to any person who is looking for an excellent gastroenterologist.
