Dr. Cesar V Alcid, MD

I have had 13 surgeries in my life and I have to say that Dr. Cesar Alcid is by far the worst anesthesiologist I have ever had to submit myself to. In the pre-op conference, I gave him a list of allergies that I had prepared. He gave it a cursory glance then brushed it aside with indifference. He laughed at me in a very mocking way and said that I did not know what I was talking about because the one drug I listed as problematic for me is the same generic as the one I requested he use instead. I did not know this, but another doctor told me that two generics can be quite different in that one may have a different coating, etc. that may cause me to react to it while the other one works fine for me. My husband and I tried to explain some of my past reactions to certain drugs and he openly mocked me. He treated me as a "crazy lady" who did not know anything. He was rude, arrogant, and cruel. I don't know how this elderly doctor has kept in practice for "42 yrs. of experience"… with that personality and attitude. As I was nearly ready to be rolled into the OR, I did NOT feel safe with Dr. Alcid as my anesthesiologist but what could I do? The hospital is not likely to call in another anesthesiologist at the last moment. As it turned out, he must have used one of the drugs that we told him to avoid because my time in PACU was much longer than than normal and my nurse said that I would stop breathing at intervals. Also, when i got to my room, I had reactions to the anesthesia for the rest of the day and night. This man should be censured, fired, or at least forced to retire. He treats patients as if they are nothing to him. Perhaps he learned his craft in a bygone era and is too old to change his arrogant and crude behavior. Watch out for this man. Ask ahead of your surgery WHO is the anesthesiologist assigned to your case. If it turns out to be Dr. Alcid, refuse to accept that. Insist on someone else. You will regret it if you put yourself in his care.
