Dr. Chandira K. Mendis, MD

Unfortunately I recently visited and mental health is not taken seriously. The person who took my vitals decided that the mental health questions were a joke and told me that "I look fine". Then she began answering the questions for me when I took too long to answer. Those questions are meant to help people and they should be taken seriously!

I went to see dr Mendis for the first time and chose her because she had a Saturday appointment. I went specifically for an annual check up (pap) and she spent less than 10 minutes with me. She asked about my sexual activities and when she learned about my orientation she dismissed the visit reason right away and said she won’t do the pap. Which was a shock for me because there’s no reason that I shouldn’t get it. I came there for that and she knew. I didn’t come here for anything else but that. But th WORST thing is that she said you live in a society where you want to explore and try but it’s my “duty” to tell you to think hard before you decide what your sexuality is. And proceeded to compare my sexuality to diabetes. She compared my sexuality to a disease. This homophobic doctor refused to treat but was open to lecture my sexuality. She then talked about my thyroid which I already have a doctor for and it’s unrelated to my visit. Then she dismissed me. I will file a complaint to… the board and I will not stay silent wirh this treatment. She should keep her beliefs to herself and treat me for what I came here for. You need to live in 2018, “doctor”.

I stopped seeing this doctor about a year ago. Me and my mother were both patients there. Almost every time we had test done at Einstein I would call after a good amount of time to have staff tell me they didn't get the results. I would call Einstein and they would tell me they had been sent. I would call back after some time and be told they just came in. I was also drug tested without my consent by Dr Mendis .

There is no problem with communication between doctor and patient. She is very thorough in her examinations. Tests are ordered accordingly without any hesitation. She is quick to respond on her phone line. Dr. Mendis takes the time to listen, does a thorough exam and spends more than enough time with you. Her office staff is helpful and courteous. The office is very clean. I was seen in less than 10 minutes with my visits.

Dr Mendis has no communication skills. I speak English and she speaks a different language. There was no compassion for my condition. After seeing me for Three appointments and charging office visit each time, I was referred to a specialist. Dr. Mendis charged my insurance or transferring my records to the specialist. Worst doctor ever.

I had the absolutely worse time with Dr. Mendis. Not only could she not keep track of what she had prescribed me but she flat out refused to hear what I was saying. I'm STILL in chronic pain and she cared to do absolutely nothing except ignore my complaints even as I accepted treatments I knew (either from past DRs or just my type of pain) wouldn't work. She claimed to be willing to work with me, instead, she definitely became a detriment towards my already tenuous mental and physical well-being.

Dr. Mendis is a great primary care physician. She takes the time to hear what you have to say, and listens when you have an opinion. She gives excellent advice and is genuine and caring. The kind of doctor that you wish all physicians were!! So lucky to have found her!
