Dr. Charles Dawson Callery, MD

I was seeing Dr Callery for a by pass surgery and attending his weight loss program. I had lost 17 pounds when he commented to me that actually the best way anyone could lose weight is to quit shoving food in our mouth. I quit seeing Dr. Callery and am just now trying again to go through a program and get the surgery.....this is now 2019. He is a horrible man.

I had my Gastric bypass in 1999. I lost 104 pounds. I have had some ups and downs but currently 20 years later I am at the weight I was after losing the 104 pounds. Gastric bypass is a tool and you have to work with it and not expect it to do everything for you alone. Your stomach will stretch, you will be able to eat more eventually. You have to do the work. It isn't the easy way out! I am 50 years old. Just had an endoscopy and my stomach surgery looks great without any issues. Thanks again Dr. Callery for helping me change my life for the better.

Mean staff. Dr. Callery seems to be an excellent surgeon but his staff can be very rude. Too bad. After 3 visits there I ended up going to a different doctor who treated me with kindness and professional behavior.

Dr Callery, his staff and Pomerado Hospital are excellent! I'm very organized and love that his office is very organized. Everyone is very kind and caring. Dr Callery is very patient and has exceptional bed side manners. Given I have medical conditions he makes me feel comfortable and has a no problem approach that I really appreciate. I've had to call a few times with questions and he or his office staff have always called me back. EXCELLENT Doctor!

Dr Callery is very competent and thorough. His bedside manner is outstanding and his staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. My surgery went well with not complications. He has a very busy practice, but schedules patients efficiently. It is a little difficult reaching the office by phone. I felt I was well treated and would recommend him.

What a horrible experience! I have never had an issue communicating with a doctor in my life! I met with Dr. Callery to get a second opinion for a gastric bypass revision. I am 16 yrs. post op, and having sever complications. I was asked prior to fax documents (ie: GI series results, labs, etc.) from prior surgeon, which were received. The receptionist actually thanked me for getting everything asked of me back to them so quickly. When the Dr. came in, I explained everything that has been goin on, that I wanted another opinion, he had everything in front of him. He then asked me for the "disc" to go along with the written report. I explained I came all the way there, I gave all the information aked, and nobody ever mentioned this "disc". So after going back and forth about that, I said fine. So then if I get this disc, and we go over it and you find that this coincides with the written report you already have, as a medical professional....what would you do in this case? What's your… medical opinion? I know you'd like to see this disc as well, doc...but! Say it all goes together, which it does....what's the resolution? He was not willing to go further, or answer any of my "legit" health questions. Now, I don't think that was asking a lot to even discuss what I was already suffering from, and the results (which were plenty) he had in front of him. He apparently felt a bit threatened by that, and called in the office manager, so I asked the same questions again, the way I did the first time and his response was, "I don't think we'll have a good doctor/patient relationship", lol...what????? Huh? I clearly let him know he was unprofessional! I have NO idea how this guy is even a doctor. If you trust him with your anatomy...good luck!!!! I would never! If you can't take the time and answer questions, or say something else with some compassion, you shouldn't be dealing with someone's life, especially under the knife!! No thanks!

Dr. Callery was very thorough and caring. I heard of him through several friends who had seen him for weight loss surgery. He is knowledgeable, a good listener, and really discussed my problem with me.I look forward to working with him as I get ready for sleeve gastrectomy.

I have NEVER had a complaint about Dr. C or his staff, including his surgical team. They are all very understanding, personable, and genuine people. I have read a couple of the bad reviews and I wonder if maybe they didn't follow the surgeons directions and ended up with issues due to the lack of follow-through. I know many of Dr. C's current and previous patients and NEVER heard a negative comment. I am 8 weeks post-op the vertical sleeve surgery and would do it again and ONLY with Dr. Callery.

Sure, all seems well BEFORE the surgery. But step back and think. In those pre-op appointments, exactly how many post-op speakers were there? How many were the same 2 or 3 people? Dr. Callary does dozens of these surgeries A WEEK. Not all go well. His staff is nice until something goes wrong. Then Dr. Callary turns into a Mr. Hyde. When I told him of pain while in hospital, he laughed it off. Not only did this man physically try to increase my pain in his office by tweaking my neck and shoulder.. with witnesses,but he called my primary doctor and told him not to see me. Callary told me to go to the ER if I thought there was a problem. I have no one to follow up with after the surgery. I still don't know what happened in surgery to sprain my neck and give me a gash down my back...let alone why I have 9 incisions when I was told I'd have 3 - 5. Oh...and what about the staff infection? Dr. Callary is a nightmare waiting to happen. AND HE IS THE ONLY DOCTOR POMERADO WILL USE! Don't go to… POMERADO or to Dr. Callary!
