Dr. Charles Thomas Carney

I felt very comfortable throughout my entire visit. I was given a plan for my future visits of which the dentist also took my concerns and budget into consideration. I am so glad that I chose AFD as my new dental care facility.

The hygienist was new to me, but she was excellent!

I am so extremely pleased with this company. I would shout it from the rooftops if need be. I was a patient of Aspen dental. my husband went to the west location and i went to the east location in knoxville. They lure you in with $19 exams and we just moved here and didn’t have our insurance set up yet. We got our insurance a month later and scheduled appointments for our regular checkups. The girls in the office said they were unable to tell us what our share of cost would be for our dental appointments. we have cigna ppo. i called and followed up to try and force them to get our cost before the next visit and with all my efforts, neither office came through. they didn’t return my call nor helped me when i called them. i called 1800dentist and asked for any dentist other than aspen dental. the man i spoke to said he’s heard that quite a bit. He referred american family dentistry so i gave them a chance and it really paid off. The front desk girl was knowledgeable and kind and helpful.… the hygienist was sweet and told me what my insurance covered before she began. the dentist saw me and let me know what was needed. A girl came in and let me know what it would cost and showed me what the insurance paid and my share of cost. they even gave me a goody bag before i left with a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss. I can’t express how happy I am with them. I immediately made an appointment for my husband. They have a customer for life and I will recommend them to all my friends.

Dr. Carney does not have any bedside manner. He does not care about his patients. He does not explain procedures or even recommend what you should do for your dental health. Receptionist answer almost every phone call by asking the caller to hold before the caller is able to say anything. Apparently Dr. Carney has too many patients to truly serve all of them. In getting dentures I waited 2 full months to receive a very ill fitting denture. Since the Dr. has received FULL payment from myself and my insurance, he no longer seems to want to assist me in obtaining dentures that actually fit. Heaven forbid they would care about what I am going to live with inside my mouth for the rest of my life! Dentures not only have to look good they have to feel good! All I can guess is that they have changed labs for denture work because denture I got thru Dr. Carney years ago fit far better from the beginning than these ever will. If you work in a healthcare profession you MUST have… compassion and understanding for your patients! If you don't, then GET OUT OF THE BUSINESS of peoples health!

Dr. Carney and Andrea are very caring and make sure you understand and are comfortable while caring for you. I would say my visit with them was excellent! If you are looking for a new dentist I would highly recommend Dr. Carney!

I've been going to see Dr. Carney for about 2yrs now. I have to say he is a man with a lot of integrity. I've been having a lot of problems with a tooth that another dentist filled, after going to see Dr. Carney about it he has taken care of the problem. I'm a very picky person and I expect nothing but exelent care and top QUALITY from my dentist. After all that's what I pay for and that's what I have all ways receaved from Dr.Carney and his staff every time. I known anytime I have an issue with my teeth, I can count on Dr.Carney and his staff to take care of it. I recommended him to anyone that is looking for an EXCELLENT DENTIST.

I have been a patient of Dr. Carney for 5 years. Something bad has changed over the last two years. Staff is rude. Wait times are over an hour. I had two appointments that I showed up for with Dr. Carney and he was "out of the office" with no notice to me. Dr. Carney is a nice man but his office is a wreck.

My husband waited 2 hours to see Dr. Carney for a root canal. After he was called to his room, the procedure took an additional 3 hours and was excruciating. The follow-up appointment was scheduled a couple of weeks later. When Dr. Carney looked at it, he determined that it was not right. So he redid part of the root canal again. A bridge was connected to the tooth where the root canal was preformed, so in the process of the root canal, the bridge broke. So with an additional few thousand dolalrs, the bridge was rebuilt. It continued to hurt, but my husband was adamant he was not returning to Dr. Carney. Since we had dental insurance that required us to see an in-network dentist, we choose to see another dentist within the AFD group. This dentist said that the procedure was not done correctly, and infection is embedded within the gum. He did prescribe an antibiotic which helped, but the tooth and gum area are still very sensitive. He said eventually the bridge would have… to be removed and the tooth pulled. I would not recommend Dr. Carney.
