Dr. Charles Richard Carozza, MD

I am working in NYPH and living in NJ and I always have a choice to make appointment to doctors in Columbia or in NJ. As usual I did mistake and decided to look for help in Columbia.I had pain in leg and knee. I spent 4 weeks in waiting for help and finally on the second doctor’s appointment I was told that I have to go to other specialist. But “other specialist” was available only after 3 weeks. It was pivot point for me.I made right decision and made appointment to Dr. Charles R. Carozza. Doctor took me in the same day. He works in nice quiet office with polite and patient receptionists. No crowds, no waiting time. The doctor knows how to enlist the trust of the patient. He immediately understood my illness, explained the next steps I have to undertake to fix the problem and explained how I have to take care about knee in the future. I had with me the disk with MRI files from NYPH. The Doctor works in simple office without computers and I was sure that he cannot read this file. But… in 5 minutes he was in office with laptop, where he opened file and explained me the graphics. All that was on the screen completely coincided with the explanations that he made earlier. Probably it was useless for me to spend time and money for MRI, the 40 years’ experience of Dr. Charles R. Carozza can replace any costly testing. Thanks.

I was directed to see him. He is responsible for assessing my medical condition for the Insurance Company of the driver who rear-ended and totaled the car I was a passenger in. She is a NJ Transit employee and was driving one of their busses when she hit us. I broke 3 ribs and suffered from all the general related back and neck injuries and pain generally associated with that kind of accident. I saw him as my opponent. I was very nervous seeing him - I'm always like that going to the Doctor. He was very nice thou. I liked him immediately. He's in his 70's but his posture - his vibe and energy - instantly strikes you as that of a much younger guy. I don't know what kind of evaluation rating he gave me but - aside from any of that - he was a really nice guy and I'd recommend him for primary orthopedic care. He knew all the Doctors I mentioned, who practice in the area and have treated me. He seems to clearly know what he's doing - is not doing evaluations because he's lost… 'it' (which was my first suspicion and has been my experience with 2 Doctors, in the 90's, I was sent to for 'hostile' evaluations) - and has been practicing where his office is for a very long time...I gave him and his staff high ratings for everything. I had to leave "Follows Up After Visit" and "Accurate Diagnosis" because I don't know and/or its not applicable. The only negative was the appointment issue. I tried to reschedule, left a msg with the service, was not contacted and then - thru my attorney - was informed that the only earliest next appointment was 2 months off!! However, we persisted and got one 5 (instead of 9) weeks off.

This is a doctor who really cares about his patients and has the knowledge to get straight to the issue and solutions. He takes the time to explain what is wrong and discusses options and medications. I felt very comfortable trusting in his expertise. Younger doctors are not trained to connect with their patients as Dr. Carozza does!
