If you expect a call back from this doctor when you child is having an adverse reaction to the medication he prescribed, good luck. After charging me $1,000 for our first visit, he never gave us a call back. My son had a bad reaction to the medication and he never has called back. Stay away from this doctor. Frankly, he should be reported to the AMA.

Dr. Cartwright takes the time to listen, considering all the details of a family's situation. He asks parents to be active participants, always considering their opinions. When prescribing medications he is conservative. His experience runs the range of childhood disorders.

Dr. Cartwright can be difficult to get in touch with in non emergencies however that's for good reason. It's very hard to find a psychiatrist as good as he is and it is the only downfall. He will spend as much time as necessary and look at every angle to get to the root of a problem and conservatively medicate. He is caring, compassionate kind and professional. Our child loves that he treats him like a person and respects him. Not an inexpensive practice to be in treatment either but well worth it.

Dr. Cartwright is the only psychiatrist that I will take my son to. My son has severe autism, and had really hard to manage behaviors...after trying years of dealing with him without meds, we finally came to realize that he needs the help...so glad that we called Dr. Cartwright...I love him because he truly listens, and genuinely cares about his patients and their over all well being...he does NOT overmedicate, but rather takes things very slowly, giving the child time to adjust...he has ALWAYS returned my calls, and spent ample time to ease us through the stress of meds and what to expect. HIGHLY recommended

Dr. Cartwright really is good at diagnosing difficult mental health cases in children and is current on the latest research. He is a very caring doctor with the kids and my kids would not be where they are today without him. They are doing great. He is an excellent psychopharmacologist--it takes a few weeks sometimes for mental health medications to work and he does not overmedicate children. He needs to see the patients before he adjusts the medications because it is difficult to assess a situation correctly over the phone. He has spent time in an emergency into the night trying to assess a situation and give the proper medications (or take the child off of them or change the dose and timing). He always follows up, if really needed. Great doctor!

This doctor is not inexpensive. For complicated cases, he does not know the pharmacology of all psychiatric medications. He would prescribe a new medication and since some take weeks to take effect, there are times when the patient needs advice by phone and he will not return such calls. You need to get to his office, pay the fee to get something that could easily be discussed over the phone. Most psychiatrists are like that because they earn their (cash) income from office appointments; there are no procedures to do. However, occasionally, it should be acceptanle for them to get a call from an established patient, specially, if there is an urgent need for medication adjustment. If any other field of medicine i.e. cardiology, internists, did not return calls, they would be sued by the patient; but not with psychiatrists. There is no regulation of their practice. They charge the fees, collect cash payments, don't want to deal with insurance companies and there are so few of them around.… Dr. Cartwright may be a good speaker, publisher, but the follow up with patient was very dissapointing.
