Dr. Charles Lance Cowey, MD

This man is NOT a good doctor by any stretch. He doesn’t care, he goes through the motions and is very arrogant. My wonderful husband went to him for metastatic prostrate cancer and I’m so sorry we didn’t go elsewhere before it was too late. This doctor should be in research or something but not dealing with patients - really bad.

Dr Cowey has treated me for melanoma of the eye that has spread to my lungs, bladder and a large knot on my back. He is an excellent Doctor, very kind and explains everything In detail. He is never in a hurry! He listens and is a true blessing in my Life. I am so Blessed he is my Doctor! *****

Been waiting for 10 days for update on cancer recurrence - "someone lost the CT Scan disk" is the best they can come up with. I have received not one call from them - all have been made by me. Add to that a generally cold attitude most of the time, I would not recommend.

I transferred to Dr. Cowey because he was a melanoma specialist when MD Anderson no longer accepted my insurance. He is very knowledgeable and seems to fight hard for his patients. He always took the time to answer my questions and was upfront and honest about my treatment and options. He went to bat for me against my insurance company when they rejected the out of network surgeon he referred me to, fighting to get me to a surgeon who had completed the procedure I needed many times.

Dr. Cowey was cruel and unprofessional. He sat on the countertop and swung his legs while telling my father that cancer was going to take his life. My father used to be 210 lbs of muscle and asked if he could still lift weights. Dr. Cowey scoffed at him (after telling him the cancer was terminal) and said, "What? Are you a weight-lifter now?" It was humiliating. Dr. Cowey then left and yelled down the hall that a nurse needed to go to lunch. Very callous. Dr. Cowey was unable to open the PET scan CD or even to eject it from the drive. He did not bother to tell us the results of the PET scan.  Dr. Cowey said he would refer my father to a liver specialist "who is a straight shooter and will tell you if you're not a candidate."  Another "straight-shooter" is the last thing my father needs after the callous disregard for his life, his humanity and his dignity shown by Dr. Cowey. There IS a way to tell someone they're not going to live very long. Dr. Cowey's way was inhhumane.

He has been a God-send. Saved my life by knowing of the newest and best drugs to try when several previous doctors knew nothing about them.
