Dr. Charles Gerard Durand, MD

I had my first visit today with Dr. Durand. I couldn’t be more satisfied with the amount of time he spent with me explaining my arthritis to me and offered a few ways for me to obtain pain relief. I’ve got to say, this is my first review of a doctor but I felt it warranted here. I would recommend Dr Durand to anyone who’s been having difficulties with arthritis so they too can enjoy the benefits of his knowledge and willingness to share. The entire staff are very friendly and helpful. I was able to get an appointment quickly too! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

While gun hoo the first time he treated me the next time he was extremely down right mean.

This was an expensive nightmare as he was out of network but highly recommended to me by a long time friend. I went in and had a wonderful conversation about my issues, mainly pain in my hip, burning muscles, numbness/tingling/zapping sensations, severe sensitivity to heat exposure, and balance and coordination issues. I was given plenty of time to discuss these issues and he gave me an "eastern" medical physical, as he chuckled that "western" medicine is missing out doing those types of exams. He left the room for a few minutes, came back, and it was like Dr. Jeckll and Mr. Hyde. It was like another person entered the room. He told me I didn't actually have pain, that I had several severe mental disorders and the the pain was because I had all these severe disorders and it was in my head that I had these symptoms. In his words, I was so bad off, I didn't realize I had the issues. He even compared it to a lost car in a parking lot somehow. He said most people park and just don't… remember where the car was parked. I was looking for a car I never had. ????? I have no idea either. He said that as soon as I doubled my Cymbalta, which was given to me for fibro, and added multiple high doses of other similar medications for mental disorders, that I would absolutely recover and feel like I was 20 again. I immediately drove home to Nashville the next morning (I was in his office off the the referral of a "friend" that is, I am certain, brainwashed by him) and went to Vanderbilt to be evaluated because I work with small children and have been trained to recognize the severe mental disorders he wrote down that I had, and was terrified that if I couldn't recognize these issues in myself, that I had failed the 10 years worth of students I had been working with because I would be the first response to intervention as an educator. After 9 hours under Vanderbilt's care, I was assured that no medical professional in their right mind would have been able to diagnose me the way he did or ever suggest so many medications in such high doses. PLEASE if you are going here or know someone who is going there, do NOT let his confidence that he knows what he is talking about or his persuasion fool you because he was, in his mind, 100% with his diagnosis for me. My friend of 22 years verbally attacked me because she is so brainwashed by him. She said if he says I have severe mental disorders, that no matter what all the doctors and nurses at Vanderbilt told me, he was still right and they were not. I lost someone that I considered to be a sister to me because of this experience. She described him to me as just about too good to be true, and it was.

Spends time going over the problem your having,very knowledgable. Happy I chose him.

Great Doctor!Listened to what I had to say,let me ask questions,never made me feel hurried or like I was wasting his time.Referred me when I needed to be and was very kind and understanding.Would see again if GP feels I need further care.

he was really nice i didnt have a problem with him i just didnt like the fact he wanted to make my overall pain worse then it was. he wanted to say i had lupus and then he made it seem like he was tryin to blame my pain on being depressed....well im not depressed so thats a no go doc.

caring,but no nonsense. in at my appt. on time,spent quality time with me, asked the right questions to find my problem.very professional.

I had a new patient Rheumatology appointment with this physician to address all over chronic joint pain. The doctor was very impersonal and clinical, no bed side manner. He interrogated me about my complaint and condition. He made me feel like he didn't believe I truly have joint pain and was very condescending. He practically accused me of having joint pain because I am fat, when I am 10-15 lbs overweight. He was also completely innappropriate during my physical examination. I am a young woman and he examined me, while I was wearing a gown, by myself. I definitely did not feel confortable that no one else was in the room with us. He also was of no help with any diagnosis, treatment, or care. I will not be going back to this doctor, for any reason!

He is treating my mother who has rheumatiod arthritis and Parkinson's. He is very knowledgeable. Looks at the whole picture. Not condescending at all. Speaks plain language. Please have no reservations about seeing Dr. Durand.

Dr. Durand is a caring doctor who takestime with all of his patients. Both my husband and I were his patients while hewas practicing in California; we are still searching for a doctor to match him.We are envious of you in Tennessee.
