Dr. Charles William Elwell, DDS

From the moment Dr. Elwell walked into the room he had a bad attitude. From his body language the way he stood against the wall with his arms crossed. He had never met me before and didn't say hi or introduce himself to me. He just said well what do you want me to do. And continued to tell me the options I had of sedation. He said he was going to numb the tooth. Mine was fractured. I told him I didn't care how he numbed it as long as I couldn't feel anything because I'm in pain and have been for a week. I told him the general dentist I seen gave me antibiotics because my gums were swollen and the affected area was pussie. He said I did not need antibiotics at all and there was a new study that showed you didnt need antibiotics. But this time I was confused. He was upsetting me. I was there to get my tooth extracted and he acted like he didnt want me there. He said well I can't give you an if sedation because your a big girl and your wind pipe might close up. He said I can give… you valium and you can come back today or tomorrow. I can't explain to you everything he said to me with such rudeness and hate. He made me fee also small. Like I was a nobody. Is it because I was fat? I'm not a self conscious person bit the way he was tewting me was like I was an abused animal. I said we are just gonna go somewhere else. The nurse was offended by that and said well we have good reviews so you have a nice day. I was humiliated for no reason at all. I am a person with feelings and you should never treat someone the way I was treated today. He had me scared to death. When I stood up he blocked me and said "what"? (I guess he didn't hear me say he had bad bedside manners.) then he moved so I could leave. I hope people reconsider ever going here. Horrible experience! I didn't leave a review on their personal page but I'm assuming they deleted it since they only keep 5 star ratings on their personal page. This man does not need to treat patients at all! He needs to retire.

I was told that I "needed" IV sedation as I would be too uncomfortable with only local anesthetic, even though I let the staff and Dr know that I preferred not to have an IV and that I had had a previous extraction years ago with only local where they did the exact procedure I was to receive at Dr Elwell's office. He told me I would be in considerable pain afterward and would need more than Motrin. So, scared I agreed to the IV sedation, which ended up being quite uncomfortable itself and the assistant moved my arm around uncomfortably and pressed over the needle site multiple times when I told her it was burning. I woke 30-45 mins later face numb and was quickly shuffled from the office. Once home I noticed I had been given two prescriptions, one for a mouth rinse which contains an ingredient that I had informed the staff I was allergic to, and the other for Motrin. Confused I called the office and asked for an explanation. I was told that the Dr had decided I didn't need more than… motrin for pain and oops on the rinse and to just use salt water. Ok, I don't like taking pain killers anyway but now I'm feeling like I was bullied and tricked into thinking I needed the IV sedation because I was told the pain would be severe. To which I was told by a staff member it was up to their discretion if they want to do a procedure if I declined the IV sedation and that I had signed the consent form. I was never told ahead of time that the Dr would not do the procedure if I declined the IV sedation. I was told I needed the sedation because it would have been too painful without it. Seems to me like a tactic to get more money out of people. If he had said HE didn't feel comfortable doing the procedure without sedation I would have said thank you have a nice day and found a different dentist to do the work that needed to be done. I will not be returning and will not be recommending this office to any family or friends. I'd rather pay more for an "out of network" provider than to be pressured into things I didn't want and were apparently not even necessary just a personal preference of the dentist.

Dr. Elwell is a very rude, bitter, and callous individual. When he was talking to me about my surgery, he went out of his way to make me feel small and stupid when I asked necessary questions about my procedure. I did not feel welcome in his office. His staff was fine, but the surgeon himself is rude and extremely unprofessional. I would not trust him with your friends and loved ones. Look for someone with nicer bedside manner that will treat you like a human being.
