Dr. Charles Joseph Hickey, MD

Dr. Hickey assured me the procedure for cataract surgery was so perfected that everything would be great. He said my far and mid eyesight would also be restored to perfect eyesight; however, after surgery he apologized and said he made a mistake. He put the wrong correction in the lens that he inserted to replace the cataract. At a later visit he said he thought the crystal lens he put in my eye was not a good fit and recommended I not use that lens in my other eye. Because of this my eyesight is now worse than it was and he said he could not fix it, that it was too dangerous. He apologized profusely at each return visit checking my eye to see if there was any change. I have since gone to OSU where specialists assure me that they can fix it either by lasik or surgery by a retina specialist. I have told Dr. Hickey his office should refund my money or pay for the corrective surgery and they have never answered me. I would not recommend him or their group to anyone.

Dr. C. Hickey is the best Ophthalmologist my Mom has ever been to. However now that she has moved we are having a heck of a time getting her records. I guess I'll try again tomorrow. Third time is a charm.

I have been seeing Dr. Hickey for many years. Yesterday my appointment took over 213/2 hours. Once I got through the process and finally got to see Dr. Hickey it was closing time. He spent maybe 5 minutes with me never apologizing for my wait and left. I stood up to leave when I had to wait for the office lady to code my visit. I thought I was waiting because I needed to make another appointment, WRONG!! She walked me to the elevator and said I could leave. I found this entire experience unbelieveable. They made me feel like they were honoring me allowing to wait half a day for 5 minutes with Dr. Hickey. Too he didn't have a clue who I was or my doctor who he has a 35 year relationship with. Working through this but pretty sure I am done.

Words don't begin to describe Dr. Hickey. He is gentle and caring and truly cares about us.

I always feel comfortable and know dr. Hickey is there for me and is ready to answer any questions. I recommend to others and know he is the greatest. Treats you like family.

I started going to Dr Hickey in the 80's every year because a lot of my family members went to him. Glaucoma runs in our family and he was treating some of them. I moved to Florida for 18 years, returning to Ohio in 2011. I went to a closer ophthalmologist the first year but have returned to Dr Hickey every year since. The other doctor was OK but the doctor never took the time to talk to me. I was moved from room to room to be tested by technicians, who treated me just as patient #100 for the day. Dr Hickey has technicians who move you from room to room for testing as well. But they were much more social and seemed to take a more personal approach to interacting with the patients. Dr Hickey came in and went over every test that had been done with me as well as doing his own exam. He provided me an opportunity to ask his questions and took the time to answer them.I will continue to go to Dr Hickey until I can no longer drive the 60 or some miles from my house to his office. A wonderful… person and one of the best ophthalmologists you'll ever find.

I chose this Dr. for my wife after a lot of research, review reading etc. Well, her visit did not meet our expectations that's for sure. This Dr. was very impersonal and extremely brief in seeing her. T assistants did much more for her. He must of physically seen / spoke with her for about 2 - 5 min tops. The prognosis did not help either. We are currently seeking a second opinion.

I saw several doctors about my eyes watering constantly and their responses ranged from telling me I needed surgery to replace my ducts to use eye drops. Dr. Hickey suspected something else and had me tested for Graves disease, specifically graves ophthalmopathy and he was right, that was the problem. Muscles behind my eyes were swelling causing the watering problem. His correct diagnosis allowed me to then see a specialist who has now guided my recovery for the past two years.
