Dr. Charles Edgar Myers Jr, MD

I could not be happier with visiting Dr. Myers. His treatment plan for me was spot on. Feeling better each day and my lab results prove all that Dr Myers is doing is working. An amazing doctor.

At age 42 in 1996 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer (PSA 7. Gleason 6/7) by an Omaha Urologist who insisted on immediate surgery. I did my research of comparative options and risks, and instead chose radioactive seed implantation with another doctor in Virginia. Seven years later the cancer returned but was metastatic. After a second brachytherapy failure I changed doctors again, this time to a Chryo therapist who wanted to freeze my prostate. Made no sense to me since it was already metastatic. Next day, I attended a PC support group. and learned about Dr. Charles E. (Snuffy) Myers, a surgeon, former director of U. of VA cancer center, co-developer of early successful AIDS vaccines, National Institute of Health (NIH) researcher, and himself a Prostate Cancer survivor. I went to hear him speak at a packed church and took 12 pages of notes. The earliest I could get an appointment was 4 months later. Meanwhile I took my notes to my former Chryo doctor and convinced him to prescribe… Dr. Myers' meds. Four months later I met Dr. Myers and my PSA had already dropped as a result of his prescription. He fine-tuned it and a few months later my PSA hit his goal of 0.01. Under his simple diet and other guidance my PSA grew very slowly over the next several years. Now, after 20 years since diagnosis my PSA is less than 8. I am nearly finished with Taxotere chemotherapy and am in excellent health otherwise (all the other numbers including weight, blood, etc. are optimum). Best doctor ever.

If you are looking for competent medical advice and well staffed office look no further. Dr. Myers is a leader in cancer treatment for prostate disease sufferers. His comprehensive approach in treating an incurable strain of cancer with leading edge treatment protocol and dietary guidelines are giving many of us added days to life and hope for a cure in the near future!

Dr. Myers is quite literally the best at what he does. His knowledge is second to none and he is the only doctor I have found treating prostate cancer who fully integrates lifestyle factors like diet, exercise and stress reduction into the treatment program.

Dr. Myers AIDP clinic in Earlysville VA is a professionally run organization staffed with highly qualified and caring individuals. My experiences here over the past 2 years has been nothing but positive.

He thinks an awful lot of himself. He really didn't want to listen about my husband's problems and concerns. He would be looking away as we asked him direct questions. I believe he's too old to be practicing medicine. I note that others on this site don't speak very highly of him. Like the others, it seems that he's prompt only about receiving his payment upfront!

When my husband's cancer returned 5.5 years ago, stage 4 with mets, most docs wrote him off giving him a 20% chance of being alive in two years. We interviews several docs including some at the big institutions such as Mayo and Johns Hopkins. We chose Dr. Myers because of his experience and the amazing outcomes his patients were having because of his ability to think outside the box. While there have been times the front office is not so sharp, we have always been able to get a response from Dr. Myers on his cell phone or through the patient portal. At one point, my hubby's sodium plummeted, putting him in the ER on a Sat. morning. Dr. Myers was on the phone with us and the local docs throughout the weekend. If you are having a hard time reaching him, use the patient portal and call his cell phone number. As far as the comment on Parkinson's, I believe he does have a form of it but, so far, it has not affected his ability to provide excellent care for my husband.

I paid a fortune to be evaluated and managed by Dr Myers, especially since he doesn't accept Insurance. Everything was okay until I became ill from the pills he prescribed. He then became unreachable by phone, e-mails, letters fax's etc.. Thank God for my local doctors who unlike Dr Myers, abide by the Hippocratic Oath. Dr Myers has no ethical or moral standards. He thinks he's brilliant and makes himself seem special/brilliant by putting out videos and newsletters...all for profit. Why doesn't he publish his "original" new work in the medical journals like other doctors? Buyers beware --AVOID THIS HUXTER!!

Dr Myers makes himself famous by doing these weekly video "blogs" and newsletters and has other doctors who apparently enjoy the spotlight make Myers seem credible. I had bad disease and saw him. He was disheveled, not at all familiar with my case (after preparing paperwork he wanted for several days), gave me meds that landed me in the ICU!!Thereafter, I saw him a few times more (I really don't know why). He doesn't accept Insurance, and he liked my thousands of dollars in cash. Then he wanted me to start me on the same meds that landed me in the ICU!! I explained that I couldn't, following which he fired me!!...although left the door open by saying "call me if you need advice". For that, they also charge a fortune!! When I last saw him, he had a tremor, and talked funny with an odd affect as if he had ? Parkinson's Dementia? Believe me, there are other docs out there who can treat you better and not steal your nest egg. I believe it's way over time for Dr Myer's to retire.

Do you really need a machine with blinking lights and meter to measure BMI (body mass index)? "Snuffy" has been at the leading edge of prostate cancer medicine and research for decades, and I have learned much about surviving this horrible disease from him. I am always amazed to read that researchers have "discovered" things that Myers had been saying when the researchers were in high school. Much of what has kept me alive after fighting PCa for many years, I owe to reading and watching Dr. Myers. On the other hand... I was sorely disappointed with my one-on-one experience as a patient with him. His impersonal, condescending manner was a shock to me after years of thinking of him as so much better than that. His staff appeared to be first day on the job with multiple mistakes and disinterest (but otherwise friendly). Medically, I didn't expect anything revolutionary from him, and that was fine, but it definitely wasn't worth the flight, lodging, car rental, etc. on top of "we… do not work with Medicare". But... I still read and watch what he says, because on that level he is still one of the best.
