Dr. Charles Zanwill Pryzant, MD

I am extremely grateful that we were referred to Dr. Pryzant. He is a great Dr. and he is very compassionate and knowledgeable. I trust his judgement completely, he knows his stuff! Thanks to his expertise my child (and our family) has been able to find some relief/normalcy. He worked with my child to find the correct medications.

If you want medication for you child without a thorough workup, this is your doctor! He doesn’t take into account any therapist notes before medicating. You can come in with a psychoanalysis report done on your child and he doesn’t care to read it to question any differences that he may see vs what the reports say. Completely discounts parents who ask questions and makes them feels inferior with his answers.

Wonderful doctor. He sees my daughter and has made a world of difference in her life. I find him to be kind, open and knowledgeable. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr Pryzant has been seeing both my children for several years now. He saw my daughter first, after the teachers were having a lot of problems getting her to focus on her work-- teachers were constantly saying "her body is here, but she's not there! I have to constantly say Earth to K----! Earth to K---- to get her attention. And after noticing how she struggled with tests-- couldn't stay focused to finish any test, and state mandated testing that gave a time limit of "all day" literally took ALL DAY for her to complete, while the rest of the class was usually finished by lunch time. She would be turning her tests in when the bell to go HOME for the day rang.. The school brought in a diagnostician to test her, and they diagnosed ADD, and set up an appt. with Dr. Pryzant. He always asks questions about how she's doing in school and at home, and offers suggestions on what can be done, based on what we tell him, besides just writing out a script. And based on what information we give… him about how she's doing, will decide whether to keep her at the same strength of med she's on, or maybe even change the med altogether. Now my son is a different case-- he was also diagnosed, through the school system testing dept. with ADHD, and set up an appt. with Dr. Pryzant, who saw him, confirmed the diagnosis, but said that he thought there was something else about him, that he couldn't quite put his finger on yet, but during the follow up visits, it would come to light.. The ADHD med didn't cover half the symptoms and, I don't know how to say it, quirks, maybe? that my son had, but I had long suspected autism. Dr. Pryzant gave my personal diagnosis a "watch and see attitude" just like all the pediatricians I'd taken him to before had.. and nothing was done until the following school year, because by then, I had physical proof from the teachers about, say for instance, his handwriting-- instead of improvement, it got WORSE. His reading however, was stellar- he read quicker and had a more accurate understanding of what was read than any other child in his class, but, he was blurting out odd things, and doing arm flapping, and HAD to have this jacket of his to wear EVERY day to school, no matter what the weather was, and he didn't care whether he played with other children or not, he would just as soon played alone..he couldn't tolerate noisy places, such as the lunchroom- it would send him into an overexcited, emotional display afterwards that you couldn't pull him out of the rest of the day, and could not get him to work.. So, once again, the school called in a diagnostician, this time from the autism dept. at Dr. Pryzant's prompting, because I had discussed what was going on with him, and he suggested I get the ball rolling with the school to contact the district autism dept. - The diagnostician had spent 5 minutes with him and knew he was autistic, even though she stayed all day, observing him in certain situations like in the classrooms, at lunch, at recess, and pulled him out of class and asked him a battery of questions and testing, to have the results on paper, but, there IS NO medication for autism, there are only modifications in the classroom setting, and a behaviour plan that is put in place in an ARD done at the school each year.. Dr. Pryzant is very helpful though- he listens to my son's progress, and regressions, and we have to change his ADHD med fairly often because they become ineffective after a time, which, I'm told through other parents of children with autism is commonplace. Dr. Pryzant always listens to what my son has to say, even when he is really struggling to get it out, and it seems to take forever for him to get it out. then he answers him very patiently, and his ideas are usually very good, common sense answers, that my son understands easily. But, there ARE times when I take him to his appts. with Dr. Pryzant, my son is in such a "mood" that you cannot communicate with him, so, those times, he asks Bobby to sit out in the waiting room while "me and your mom have a little talk" and we talk about whats going on, and "tweak" his ADHD meds to see if it helps, and talk about his behaviour plan, and what new modifications I should make at home, and if there are any that should be made at school, advises me to call another ARD at his school..I like Dr. Pryzant--he is patient with the kids, always has great solutions that the kids understand and are willing to follow, because when HE says the solutions to them, it's not "mom" just saying it, even though I may have already suggested the same thing, it becomes more believeable coming from a professional, for them, because unfortunately, the school system is full of teachers that will tell the children that they don't have to believe what their parents tell them, they aren't the professionals, the teachers are, and the diagnosticians and doctors are, so listen to them, and NOT the parents... it's unfortunate, but, private school is out of the question on our budget, and it's not so bad yet that we are willing to sell our home and move to another school district to find change...YET... I can see it coming though, with regard to my son, but, it would have everything to do with the school system, and NOT Dr. Pryzant.. I recommend him to anyone who has a child with a problem that needs diagnosing on a psychological level..
