Dr. Charles Joseph Shaw

dr shaw treated me when i admitted myself to st anthony's south rehab to escape the nightmare my life had become on oxy. 7 yrs later i am still clean & sober, have not had a single slip-up, zero cravings, and have my sons & grandsons back in my life. my oldest moved me to bartlesville from okc in '15 after making sure i stayed clean & sober & away from a horribly abusive husband. i owe every day of my life since to Dr Shaw. if i had been treated by the other physician who was seeing patients at that time i have no doubt i would not be where i am, alive & well, living my best life, happy, healthy & well. dr shaw deserves an award for all he's done, & if i was nearer, i'd love to give him a huge hug right now & tell him how much i appreciate what he did for me. God bless Dr Shaw, & St Anthony's for having him right where i needed him to be at that time. thank you.

i met dr shaw in dec, '11 when i entered St Anthony's START program, south campus, to get off oxy & every other opiate. i had never heard of suboxone & at 1st i wanted no part of it but i've had a neck injury & dr shaw asked me how i intended to handle my pain. "I was hoping you'd tell me!" i said. he told me about "the best pain medication available" but if my insurance wouldn't cover it i wouldn't be able to afford it, he said. at 1st i said i didn't want to leave rehab dependent on just another drug. but by my 2nd day off everything, i was going to need a wheelchair to get around again, as i had in the past, so i agreed to try the suboxone the next morning. it was given to me early in the a.m & i dozed back off. when i woke up i instantly recognized the change. the immediate pain upon moving was GONE. it was the closest to being pain-free i'd been since the injury. i was at dr shaw's office door smiling from ear to ear when he came in that day. thankfully when i was… discharged my insurance DID cover the drug, and ALWAYS HAS! it's now 6 1/2 YEARS LATER, & i am still thanking my lucky stars that dr shaw WAS MY dr in rehab instead of the other 1 who did not prescribe suboxone for pain! i went to Oklahoma Pain Center, (Jamie Burroughs) okc, until i moved to bartlesville in oct 2015 to be closer to my kids. one of my fears going ON the suboxone was that my sons, who had written me off years before suboxone, would never accept that i was on a pain medicine that didn't make me crazy. but i left my social media page open hoping they'd lurk, and they did! one day my oldest sent me a picture of a bowl of potato soup & a bologna sandwich & said he missed me. a short time later he moved me to bartlesville where i could actually be a Grandma & Mom again & i can wholeheartedly say that they have not seen me high or drunk or the least bit out of it since going on the suboxone. i have a ROUTINE. i wake up to face whatever the day brings! another added bonus (and i know this isn't what it's prescribed for) i haven't had a single flare of depression since going on the suboxone! granted i'm still on an antidepressant, but that never kept the crippling episodes at bay very long before so i know who & what to be grateful for! thankfully Axis Healthcare in Bixby, (Dr Hubbard) has now started prescribing suboxone for chronic pain! my kids could visit more often, but hey, i'll take what i can get!! ;-) from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU DR SHAW FOR ALL THAT YOU ARE & FOR GIVING ME MY LIFE BACK! i could not have done it without you!! I have known Dr. Shaw for years. He saved my life, & then he helped my son. He is amazing & passionate about what he does. His success rate is unbelievable,& commending. I have been going to Dr. Shaw for over a year and my life has changed due to his understanding, help, and support. His entire professional office staff are like family. I have been provided all of their cell phone numbers and can count on all of them anytime I need them. Dr. Shaw has over 52 years of experience. They all understand addiction and can relate in some aspects. I can't express how much my world has changed for the better because of him and his staff along with meetings and working my program. You will be taken care of!
