Dr. Slack is by far not only the best orthopedist, but perhaps the best physician I have ever met. He is not only incredibly knowledgeable and skilled, but he is also very kind, caring, compassionate and generous.

Doctor Slack was wonderful, but his secretary Kathy does not relay phone messages to the doctor which makes it very difficult to find out the results of testing.

I have seen many back specialists in the last 7 yes and Dr. slack is by far the most professional surgeon. I had been in pain for many years, and instead mid making the pain with Narcotics, he finds the root cause and fixes it.

I had my surgery for scoliosis done at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago in 1982. and saw how hardworking he was. He was in the hospital late at night and up early to operate. . ( Some Chicago doctors won't even bother to answer their emergency phone messages. And a resident commented to me that he'd never be a workaholic like Dr. Slack.) When he did the surgery he spent hours and hours getting everything right. His efforts paid off. The scar is a very straight, even line down my back which the man who put me in the plaster cast admired. I could soon take a full amount of air into my lungs after surgery because my lungs had more room to breathe. Some scoliosis surgeries become undone when the back starts to curve. My back, with its Harrington rod, is still very straight after 30+ years. I've never had any complications or any medical problems for the past 30 years. He's also friendly and easy to get along with. No complicated ego! I would trust… him again or any doctor he would recommend.

I have known Dr. Slack since 1988. He was the first surgeon to operate on my spine at Michael Reese Hospital. He is not an honest and caring orthopedic surgeon which everyone raves about on this website. He performed a botched spinal fusion on me that never fused correctly. I had a worker's compensation case pending which I lost due to his staff's incompentence in processing my legal paperwork. I waited for five hours only to see him for a fifteen minute office visit. He would smile in your face and stab you in the back. I am totally disabled as a result and could never work. I believe he caters to certain patients and if your lucky might get minimal relief of your pain.

Have known Dr Slack for 25 yrs. Would not ever let any other Physician touch my back,not just because of his skill & expertise but because he is the most caring, kind & concerned doctor I have ever met.I've known a lot of Drs. from all specialties because I worked in a Chicago Hospital for 25+ yrs. Also have had Dr/Pt contact with many over the years including Dr Slack. Dr Slack is Top of the list, hands down. His human side is always present and he treats his patients' as people not objects of a job. This is a trait many Drs don't possess. I admire this most about him and believe that this is what makes him a wonderful Physician & person.
