Dr. Charles Barton Smoot, MD

Dr Smoot is an aggressive Man, several times I had to stop him to see why he was so angry. He did not address my issue and walked out on me while I was in mid sentence. He was late to my appointment and in return I suffered as he wanted to leave as it was Friday. He will threaten you by withholding medication if you don’t agree to his terms.

The award of worst of the worst of medi-cal doctors goes to this guy. No one paying cash would see him twice so his future as a Dr. is very limited. He graduated at the bottom of his class, medicine is a second career. Don't trust he'll have any medical knowledge. He needs a psych evaluation & drug testing, so I'm going to ask the state of CA to help him get the care he needs. (The more complaints the quicker the action) CHUCK IS NOT IN HIS RIGHT MIND. Mr Smoot, no one that abuses patients should feel safe & secure doing so. Eventually you will be removed from patient contact. Patients, feel free too stand up & walk out at any moment. If your reading this in his office, your better off leaving the first time he insults you. Don't be the victim he's looking for. He gets happy when the power trip he's on is successful. Knowledge is power. Don't let your "insurance" assign him to you, call & change. You now have the power to make an informed decision. If your life matters to you,… don't kiss this guys feet when he tells you to, put him in his place & say NO. Expect to be verbally abused, berated, & mistreated, that's all he has & all he does. He is the poster child of the broken healthcare system. Read his Yelp reviews too.

I don't like how he can be mean spirited, and gets personal and vindictive. Won't see him again

He only cares about getting to his next patient to be able to bill as much in one day as he can. his exact words were " i have to get to my next patient and i can't spend that much time with you. I will listen to one of your concerns". That was my first visit with him. i have addison's disease and trying to convince him i needed more than the minimum amount of hydrocortisone was a serious batterle. After the first visit i had 150 pills to last me 42 days because of the way my insurance was and having overlapping refills. this could've been rectified by Smoot with a prior authorization form but I didn't get that until my next appointment today. i tried for a month and a half leaving messages on his personal voicemail, with the nurses station, having the pharmacy leave messages and fax requests. all failed. todays appointment was no less dramatic. It destabilized into an arguement. he agreed with me that I needed a supply of medicine above the minimum but didnt want to prescribe them for… some reason. he finally did after I told him I felt like crap, my symptoms were returning and I felt like i was nedotiating my health in a hostage like situation. my final sstatement would be this if you like quantity over quality care this is the doctor for you but if you actually value quality care....find another doctor.

He doesn't want to hear concerns you have, prescribed adequate amounts of medicine, nor let you express concerns you have. He only cares about getting to his next patient so he can get the most patients in in one day. So off you care about a doctor who sees you as a dollar sign and cattle, he's the right one for you.I have Addison disease and require steroids replacement therapy. I MUST have an adequate supply of my two medicines. Smooth gives me the bare minimum, so I am notable to stress side like I shiuld. Furthermore, he has stacked TX so my insurance won't honor the second tx until the first has been used up plus all refill. A simple solution would be for the Dr. To fill out a pre authorization....I have been calling as well as the pharmacy calling amd faxing the form over to him with no response. This was a month ago I started this. So right now, not only am I not able to stress dose... I have to ration my pills.Shoots answer to this, " oh just come in as a walk-in and ill give… you another rx" which I woulldn't be able to fill anyway. He lied to me in my last visit. I expressed concerns about not having enough medicine and he said he would prescribe me an extra 60 pills. Well this was before my next appt. Was made. My next appt. Was made for 43 days past that day. An extra 12 days than normal. I rake 5 5mg tablets if hydricortisone.....he prescribed me 210(extra 60)....that's just enough to get me by. However I haven't even been able to get that rx because if no reauthorization form. So ive been on my first 150 rx refill....so I've had to ration my pilks and am not taking enough....but in this dr.s mind....rhats perfectly fine.
