Dr. Charles Allan Pratt

My appointment with Dr. Pratt for my daughter was one of the most uncomfortable medical experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment he began speaking to us, something felt off. Without examining my daughter or ordering any tests, he immediately suggested that her chronic stomachaches and bathroom issues were “in her head.” My daughter has HSD, and instead of discussing her symptoms, Dr. Pratt launched into a long rant insisting that HSD and EDS (which I have) do not cause pain or other chronic issues. He went as far as telling me that my own disability and documented, decade-long medical issues weren’t real, despite not being my doctor and knowing nothing about my medical history. He then speculated that he might have EDS because he’s so flexible but “without pain,” implying my condition was psychological. As someone who is visibly and painfully disabled, this was deeply dismissive and inappropriate, not to mention flat-out wrong. When he asked if I was concerned about my daughter’s… weight, I explained calmly that I was not, that her medication causes weight gain, and that she is active and healthy. I also told him we were stopping that medication. I shared that I prefer not to focus on her weight, gesturing to my child who was visibly uncomfortable. He ignored that entirely and continued discussing her weight in front of her, saying he “wouldn’t want a young girl to get confidence issues,” ironically causing the very concerns I was trying to prevent. My daughter is eight, and this was the first time she ever expressed doubt about her body. Throughout the appointment, he repeatedly redirected the conversation back to me—my disability, my mobility devices, and his assumptions about my health—rather than focusing on my daughter’s symptoms. He even suggested that her pain could simply be her “internalizing” my condition, which felt like blaming both of us instead of offering care. I left feeling unheard, dismissed, and genuinely disturbed by the way he spoke to both me and my child. This appointment did not feel trauma-informed, disability-informed, or child-centered in any way. I would strongly urge other parents—especially those with disabled children or disabled family members—to proceed with caution.

This Dr is an idiot. I have seen him twice for my toddler who is having reactions to gluten and both times he has tried to make me feel like I am dumb and crazy. I shoul have been more worried when he told me that he gets "food poisoning all the time". As a GI doctor he should know it is not food poisoning if you get it all the time! But then he argued with me on basic points like if Cheerios have wheat in them, they do he got mad because he believed they didn't. He is comparative, does not listen, has terrible bedside manner and completely unhelpful.

Not only do I work with Dr Pratt and trust his judgement with my patients, I take my own child to see him. He has my daughter with a chronic ongoing issue and has given me answers when other doctors could not. He is wonderful and would use again.

I think Dr. Pratt was the best Doctor we have ever had. He listened to everyone of our Children's medical problems and helped. He found out what their problem were very fast(it took the other doctors two years to even listen). He is a very caring and understanding doctor. He's not in our state anymore and we really miss him as our doctor.
