Dr. Charlotte Martha Akor, MD

I’m going to write this review with brutal honesty, I do not know why Akor is in the pediatric field… the way she conducted herself and comments she made about other children in the waiting room who was crying is so cringy. I believe she hates what she does, and she needs to get out. She might be so well educated and maybe an awesome surgeon, but as a “specialist” in her field, she does not know how to socialize with children or even the parents. She lacks empathy, she doesn’t care, and yes honesty is great but there is a way to talk to the people. I walked in with my six year old, shy, quiet little boy and she made us feel so small when we were trying to find answers or even some form of positivity. I quote “one eye child,” “I’m going to educated you so you don’t go for a third or fourth opinion.” She made it seem so small of what we were going through with out compassion, just her cold hearted answers sounded like we were annoying her. She has no bedside manner, and is pretty… miserable at her job. So from one mom to another parent DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Find better, find someone who will hear you out and not belittle you while your trying to find the best for child. Dr. Akor may never see this review, but I pray that when it’s the other way around, and it’s someone you love deeply, that they don’t kick you down when your helpless; may they have compassion that you dearly need to learn.

My daughter took her infant son to see Dr. Akor. He has ONH (optic nerve hypoplasia). He wasn't diagnosed until three months old. She saw him and set a follow up appointment for one year out. We started noticing Arlo 'seeing' things or noticing brightly lit objects. So my daughter scheduled an appointment (before the one year follow up). She requested any tests that would tell if his optic nerves had developed more at all. Dr. Akor told my daughter that until Arlo could look at the animals on her 'vison chart' to identify them there wasn't much of a way for her to know if he was developing sight. She didn't do any tests, even though my daughter asked her numerous times. She told her that she should listen to the vision impaired caseworker assigned to Arlo on whether she thought his sight was developing. Unsatisfied with basically being blown off and not getting anywhere, my daughter sought a second opinion. The other eye doctor measured Arlo's optic nerves, tested his pupil… responses and prescribed him glasses. He can now see with 20/20 accuracy when wearing his glasses. Since Arlo is an infant, and A LOT of infant development depends on sight, Dr. Akor could have caused Arlo to continue to fall behind in his development by basically not caring, not listening to my daughter, not even trying. The only reason I left one star is because it wouldn't let me post without selecting at least one. Otherwise, absolutely no stars! I'm actually sitting the office right now and am appalled at how Dr. Akor presented her self when coming in to the room to see my son. Her staff and the gentleman who came in before She did were great! Her- she came in the room said very quickly hi I'm dr akor. Did not look me in the eyes. Asked my son very rudely what his symptoms were and then asked me while barely turning around. After i told her about my sons reading teacher thinking he may have an eye teaming issue and that it wouldn't hurt to get his eyes Checked, SHE ROLLED HER EYES AT ME!! Then began doing all sorts of stuff to my kid and not even explaining to me what she was doing. Put drops in his eye and walked out!! Her assistant came in and I was so stunned and asked him what those drops were he told me they were to dialate his eyes and to go back to the waiting room and will call us back in about 20 minutes. So here I am. Writing this review, I am a mother of a little boy who has never had his eyes checked. I don't like… doctors who have horrible bedside manner. Be friendly!!!!

Really got alot from my visit with this dr. a few years ago, found this site looking for her office number. Plan to schedule another checkup with her soon. Very knowlegable and helpful dr.
