Dr. Charlotte Susanna Resch, MD

I grew up in the eastern United States and in eastern Canada, but now I very much enjoy living in a climate where I can choose to visit the snow rather than have it come visit me. My father was a physician, and when I was in seventh grade I had already decided to follow in his footsteps because I really wanted to help people. However, my three older siblings beat me to it and went into medicine ahead of me. In fact, both my sisters are also surgeons. It's not often you find three female surgeons in one family! Surgery was not a common career choice for a woman when I entered the field, but I did not let that deter me. In fact, I was the first woman to ever complete a surgery residency at my alma mater, Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I have never regretted my choice.
