Dr. Cheryl Lynn Varner, MD

I was already at the hospital for another appointment and was early to Dr. Varner. She said she would squeeze me in early and then took 45 minutes to explain my diagnosis. She answered all of the questions I had at the time and I did not feel rushed at all.

What a cold, uncaring doctor. I went to her with fairly serious ear pain. While my husband waited in the car, she looked in my ear and said, "You have 2 choices. I give you antibiotics, and maybe you'll be better in 6 months. Or, I take this knife and I cut your eardrum, now. You have 30 seconds." I was horrified. I asked if I got a sedative or anything. I had never had surgery. The idea of a knife in my ear terrified me. All she said was, "Are you a child?" I let her do the myringotomy. The sound of your ear drum being sliced is not one you will forget. I got better, briefly. She failed to diagnose a much deeper and more serious condition. I tried, hard, to get her to lighten up, be a human being. After a couple appts, she was better, but, I do not recommend her to anyone who requires caring attention. She gets offended if you go elsewhere for a second opinion. Perhaps it is the military experience that has hardened her. She may be competent, but, life is too short to be treated so… abruptly. I hope she softens with age. The ENTs I saw subsequently are some of the finest, most caring doctors I have ever had the honor of knowing. They restored my faith and courage. Please, before seeing a doctor, ask around. Take all opinions with grain of salt, but look for repeating themes of quality or lack thereof. Expect caring treatment. Leave if you feel disrespected.

I felt that Dr. Varner listened attentively and she and her staff were professional at all times. She followed the normal protocols that any physician would do with a patient with my symptoms. I would've liked more advice from her on an integrative approach to recovering my hearing, though.

Dr Varner doesn't listen to her patients (me)! She's also not ever available for her patients after surgery was always gone.. For the entire 6 weeks after surgery she saw me 2 x's... She was gone doing a Army Reserves!! Did you want to be a doctor or do you want to on the military?? She kept focusing on weight and not on my complaints of me not feeling well.. Her staff is unprofessional... Rolling their eyes and also not listening to my complaints... Her PA had seen me and I was complaining of fluid build up in my facial area and she told me that it's not in my sinuses that it's under my skin which my regular physician said that doesn't happen not possible...and she has a degree?? Fair warning stir clear of this physician and her unqualified staff!!!!
