Dr. Chester S. Handelman has maintained an exclusive Orthodontic practice in Downtown Chicago for a number of years, providing the most professional and comprehensive care to Adults, Teens and Children. Together, with his excellent and caring staff they offer services that result in radiant smiles at any age.
Our Treatment Philosophy
Meeting the orthodontic needs of each individual with care and professional expertise means that treatment is provided based on the most advanced methods available in the practice of orthodontics. Treating adults, teens and children with complex orthodontic issues utilizing fixed appliances, clear braces or Invisalign as needed. Where indicated, coordination with other dental specialists is always addressed.
Background & Training
After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from undergraduate school Dr. Handelman received his dental degree from Harvard School of Dental Medicine with Magna Cumlaude standing. This was immediately …followed by his Orthodontic training, also at Harvard, where his research was sponsored by a grant from the National Institute of Dental Research. He moved from Boston to Chicago where he accepted a position at the Craniofacial Abnormalities Center at the University of Illinois. Several years later he opened his Orthodontic practice at 25 E. Washington St. Chicago where he has remained in the heart of the city.
Teaching & Research
Over the past 20 years Dr. Handelman has been on the faculty of the Orthodontic Department at the University of Illinois, Chicago. In 2009 he received the “Outstanding Teachers Award” from the Illinois Society of Orthodontists. He now has the title of Clinical Professor of Orthodontics at the University of Illinois. His research has covered some of the major areas of orthodontics including; early studies of cleft lip and palate, non surgical maxillary expansion in adults, the limits of orthodontic treatment, and recently in the areas of orthodontic treatment of patients with periodontal bone loss, and orthodontic enhancement of prosthetic and implant procedures.
Awards
In 2009 he received the "Outstanding Teacher Award" from the Illinois Society of Orthodontists. Dr. Handelman was recently selected as a "Top Doc" Dentist in Chicago for 2011.
Lectures
In addition to his various series of lectures and courses at the University of Illinois he has lectured at New York University, University of Michigan, Case Western Reserve and overseas at Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, the 41st Indian Orthodontic Conference in Chennai, India and the University International Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain among other national and international programs.
