Dr. Cheston Ranier Rhoton, MD

First of all, this guys name should be Dr. Rotten instead of Dr. Rhoton because he is a terrible doctor and a horrible person. I went into NWMC's ER on 6/30/2014 at approximately 4:00am after having severe abdominal and rectal pain all night with severe constipation and thinking I had a possible obstruction. I was triaged fairly quickly as it was not busy in the ER and was asked the standard questions. One of them was if I thought I may be pregnant to which I answered no, because I've had a hysterectomy. I was put in a room shortly after that and I was asked a series of questions again by nursing staff. I told them that my pain level was at about an 8 on the pain scale. They did a Urinalysis. When the doctor came in I explained to him again that I thought I may have a bowel obstruction due to pain and severe constipation. I also explained that I had a history of this and that I was currently being checked for possible Chron's disease and also had rectal bleeding. The doctor… said right away that he didn't think I had an obstruction because typically "only old ladies in thier 70's get obstructions and I'm fairly young. None the less he would perform a rectal exam and order and Xray of my abdomen. He also said that he was not going to order a scope because that would entail him having to sedate me and he wasn't going to do that. He performed the rectal exam and examined my abdomen, and he was gone. The male nurse who was very professional and caring, came in to check on me when I told him I was in a lot of pain still, told me that he was waiting for the doctor to order something for me. By this time, it had been about 2 hours, and I still hadn't gotten anything for pain. The nurse later came in with a bag of Saline and some pain medicartion. By that time it was about 7:00 in the morning because he was leaving as it was shift change. It took another 3 hours or so for me to finally be wheeled in to get my Xray. The tech that was on duty apoligized for making me wait so long and said that they had to wait for my pregnancy test to come back and that it was negative. I told the tech that they shouldn't have even ran a pregnancy test becuase I had told the triage nurse that I had had a hysterectomy. He was shocked and apoligized again. After the Xray it was approximately another 2 or 3 hours and I and my husband told the AM nurse that I was again in a lot of pain. She repeatedly stated that she had told the doctor but that he hadn't said anything or ordered more medication for me. The nurse came and asked my husband who my doctor was that was following me for this and my husband provided the phone number to them. They said they would call. About another hour went by and again my husband asked the nurse for more pain medication. I was almost in tears and frustrated and just wanted to go home. It was already close to noon and I had been there since 4:00 am and nothing had been done for me. The nurse finally came back with more pain medication and said that they were going to discharge me because there was nothing they could do. That my Xray had come back ok. By that time, my husband had himself called my Colorectal Surgeon and explained what was happening. About an hour later Dr. Rhoton finally came back and said that he was going to relase me and I should follow up with my doctor as there was nothing he could do for me. I started to ask him a question and he interrupted stating, "STOP! I treat gun-shot wounds and broken bones! You need to follow up with your specialist!" and he walked away from me. A litle while later, a nurse came in and told me I was being discharged and that they were going to bring me my discharge paperwork right away becuase, she joked, "they needed the room". I was stunned!!! I just wanted to go home! I work in the Medical field. I work in a hospital and patients deserve to be treated with respect and compassion. I treat my patients with the compassion they deserve and I expect to be treated that way when I'm a patient. We have to have compassion and ethics and clearly these people have none. Except for the nice nurse at the beginning and the Xray tech, I have nothing good to say about NWMC ER!! I've worked in an ER before and I've seen people treated like this and it's not right! People like him should not be allowed to practice medicine! It turns out I have a seroius condition that is going to require surgey. I've been going through so much and have not had the chance to file a formal complaint but you bet I'm going to! Maybe if this person who calls himself a doctor would have taken a litle bit more time my condition wouldn't have worsened and I would not have to have surgery now. I ought to get a lawyer! Maybe I will!!
