Dr Ung is excellent

I have been a patient of Dr. Ung’s for over 8 years. He truly cares about his patients as a human being. He listens to how you feel, what works and what hasn’t .

I have never experienced such poor care as a patient as I received from this medical office. The medical staff (Dr. Ung and his medical assistants) and their billing office have no business holding a medical or business license. My first visit was in 2017 for chronic back pain. At the consultation, I was told that they would perform a spinal nerve block to alleviate my pain. I scheduled the appointment to receive the nerve block approximately 3 weeks post-consultation so that the billing office would be able to obtain prior authorization from my insurance company. 5 weeks later, I received notification that the prior auth was approved and my appointment was scheduled 2 weeks out (7 weeks total after my consultation). I had called the billing office to follow up on the status of the prior auth several times and was spoken to so rudely which should have been my first warning to see a different doctor. I was told by my insurance company that the billing office did not request the… authorization until almost 2 weeks after my consultation (which they rudely dismissed and denied - at one point threatening to cancel any future appointments if I continued to call them). I kept the appointment because to obtain an appointment with a different office would have taken just as long with the wait list. On the day of my appointment, I was greeted in the lobby by a billing representative and told that I had to sign a form promising to pay the full amount of the procedure due to prior authorization being denied. The billing representative presented me with a form completed with a completely different patient's name and info! I was floored. At that point, I had no reason to trust anyone in this office, but proceeded with the appointment and after the procedure asked the doctor if I may set a time to speak with him in regards to the ordeal I had been thru leading up to that day. The doctor acted as if I was out of line and promptly told me that I would not need to make a future appointment because I had become a problem. I left in tears. My best advice is to sit on any wait list for the other pain providers in the Roanoke area and not to even take a chance with entrusting any of these people with your health care. It isn't worth it.

My entire experience was awful. The Dr does not spend any time answering any questions or informing you about procedures. Comes in, performs the procedure, and breezes out without much of anything to say. Later, I found out thru a colleague of his that his medical assistants do not possess the required credentials to start IV lines, administer IV medication, and most do not even have a degree in medical assisting. The turnover of employees in that office is unreal. Not a stable medical office at all.

All these pain management doctors are the same they want to give you expensive injections that do nothing but won't write a prescription for pain medication anymore they'd rather throw the patient under the bus so long as they don't get in trouble

I approached this office as a new patient. They are accepting new folks. After a month of poor communication, they told me they would not take me as a patient. What?? Really? Why? Because I take Cymbalta. Makes zero sense. Wasted a month of my time and travel and record gathering. Asked the know nothing clerk for a call back from a Dr. to explain what is going on. Nothing. Guess they don't care. Never saw the Doctor. Never been treated like this in my 59 years on earth. Congrats to this office for dismissing me like a school boy. Stay away....

Dr. Ung is excellent. Has been most helpful to me.

every time I call to make an appointment it's always a machine and then they never call me back so I can make an appointment.
