Dr. Chih Lynn Cheng

It's rare for us to comment negatively on a doctor (I don't think we ever have before), but our recent experience with Dr. Cheng deserves to be told. Our daughter has been a patient of Dr. Cheng's, seeking her out to gain help with her acne. Dr. Cheng prescribed a regime for her that has been quite effective. However, our daughter developed pretty severe complications with one of the regime's medicines, and when told of these complications Dr. Cheng's reaction was to brush them off as nothing out of the ordinary (heartburn). In fact, the complications seem to be related to a scarring of the esophagus, which we only discerned through research on our own. What is shocking to us is that the complications occurred on not one but on two occasions, and at no point in the process did Dr. Cheng inform us as to what might be their cause. It turns out that my daughter erred by lying down after taking the medicine, which, as we were later told by one of Dr. Cheng's colleagues, can result in… harmful outcomes, and that this should be a dermatologist's common knowledge. We just don't understand why Dr. Cheng never bothered to tell us about this situation, particularly after the complications occurred the first time. Due to the problem with the medicine our daughter experienced sharp pains when she ate or swallowed, and we ended up having to keep her out of school. However, at no point did Dr. Cheng ever bother to call us to check on our daughter's situation. Dr. Cheng lacks empathy and has little concern for her patients. Although perhaps educated, in our opinion she exhibits a sense of entitlement that negates her ability to be a good physician.

I was made to wait for almost 1 hour from my actual appointment time. When the doctor finally came she was in such a rush, hardly spoke to me for 3-4 minutes. Also, she did not even bother to ask me if I would prefer to be examined privately as there was a male nurse in the room and she went ahead with the examination while he was still there. I am very disappointed with this and would never go back to see her.

Dr. Cheng is very thorough in her examination and very easy to talk to.

I saw Dr. Cheng at her previous place of employment. I rally want to see her again. I am happy that she is having twins, but sorry that I won't be able to see her until the fall.

I think she's professional, thorough, and smart.

Dr. Cheng is the most thorough dermatologist I have ever visited.  She takes the time to talk to you and performs the most complete exam I've ever had.  She is personable, friendly, easy going and explains things very well.  I am sad to learn that she is leaving The Dermatology Center of Raleigh, and found this site while looking to see where she is moving to.  4 Stars across the board! Hopefully we will find out where she is practicing next.

Dr. Cheng is very no-nonsense. She moves quickly, speaks quickly, types about a thousand words a minute, and is an excellent diagnostician. For an all-business, no frills, practical, effective doctor, she's the one! She's also quite nice -- if you can keep up with her!!
