Dr. Chirlyn Urena Paulino, MD

***MUST READ*** She receives a negative star from my experience!-------- I have been bringing my 5-year-old to Nemours Pediatrics since birth, and I have never experienced the type of treatment we received during this recent visit. I saw Dr. Urena with some concerns regarding my child’s health. I shared the symptoms I observed and what I thought the possible cause might be. However, the doctor quickly dismissed my concerns, told me it wasn’t what I thought, and gave a completely different diagnosis. As a proactive parent, I did my own research and found that the diagnosis and its symptoms didn’t align with what my child was experiencing. I respectfully brought this up and asked for a second opinion—which I am entitled to as a parent. Dr. Urena seemed visibly bothered by this request but did go ahead and bring in another doctor. When the second doctor came in and examined my child, they mentioned the same possibilities I had initially brought up. I acknowledged this by saying, “That’s… what I thought as well.” At that point, Dr. Urena and I exchanged some words. She seemed to feel disrespected or perhaps challenged by my request for a second opinion. The situation escalated unnecessarily. The second doctor attempted to take over the visit and asked Dr. Urena to leave the room, but she refused and continued to argue with me—in a raised voice—right in front of my 5-year-old. She even told me, loudly and unprofessionally, to make sure I let the receptionist know never to schedule with her again because she doesn’t want to deal with me. This was incredibly upsetting—not only to me as a parent but especially to my child, who left the appointment confused and full of questions. I have never in my life encountered a healthcare professional treating a patient or parent in such a manner. While Dr. Urena may be knowledgeable in her field, based on reviews, it’s clear that if you question her or advocate for your child, you risk being treated the way I was today. It's disheartening and unacceptable.
