Dr. Chris Sotere Karas, MD

I can't thank, and recommend, Dr. Karas enough!! I have had a LOT of spinal surgeries and even had one doctor tell me I have "no hope" for living the rest of my life without pain. The other doctor said the sooner I realized this, the better it will be for me. Dr. Karas changed all of that. I went in for a neck injury and he wanted to know what was going on with my full spine where I had so much surgery. He told me I had OPTIONS. I have never had options other than surgeries and opioids. Dr. Karas had a great bedside manner, and he listened to me. Not all doctors do that. Do yourself a favor and go to him if you have a spinal issue.

Once he felt my wallet, he knew there was nothing more he could do for me. His answer to everything is "let's put a $100,000 dollar stimulator in you", it won't fix the problem, it'll just mask the pain. But he'll make money..... Lost all respect for this doctor.

Spine surgery usually involves metal screws stabilizing the disks. Dr. Karas offers a novel technique that is less extensive and based on widening the channels in the spine and removing the bone fragments that press against the nerves (no metal in the body). It is a microsurgery compared with the traditional method. The recovery is much faster than the traditional method (I was released the same evening after surgery) and rehab in my case was two visits to the physical therapist. My extreme pain is gone totally!!! Maybe his procedure is not suitable for all patients, but for me it worked. He explained the procedure on my 1st visit and I had a surgery within 3 weeks. I also avoided the cortison treatment that in my case had no chance to work permanently. I am extremely lucky that my friend advised me to see Dr. Karas. Moreover, his method does not preclude the "traditional" screws later, and even allows for "touch ups" if the next disk starts to press on the nerves. On my post-op visit,… he gave me tips of "what not to do" and I did not even know how to thank him.

Dr. Kara's saved my life. After being run over twice by a car and multiple surgeries(17)I had lost all hope--when I found this exemplary surgeon. After a 30 hour surgery, L3 corpectomy, L1-S1 screws/rods, repair of my spinal cord that was "hanging by a thread" and man made stem cells--i am grateful to say 9 years later I am still truly blessed to have met the man who took away my pain, allowed me to walk again and gave me back my life. He never met with me or took the time to answer my questions he just sents his MA or a nurse who give you generic short answers

We treated with Dr. Karas when he worked in Des Moines, IA. He performed a surgery on my son that saved his life. Dr. Karas was not only kind, caring and patient, he is also a brilliant surgeon and I could not possibly thank him enough.

Dr. Karas while initially during the first and last appointment with him seemed caring. At the only appointment I had with him, he took time to answer my questions. He performed my surgery. I saw him the day after surgery. I was told I'd be up and back to living within 6-8 weeks. While there was some improvement after surgery, I ended up with pinched nerves at the surgical site which was ignored. I live with severe chronic pain caused by daily muscle spasms, shooting pains into my legs which also lose feeling. I am now 42 years old. Dr. Karas would not see me when I scheduled a follow up appointment. I live in a bed, I travel on a bed, I can't walk a quarter mile, I can't stand, sit, do basic household chores, drive, and I live on pain medication which doesn't control the pain. Due to high pain levels, my blood pressure rises above the textbook stroke levels. Something went terribly wrong with my surgery and I'm trapped living a life of pain. I would not recommend Dr. Karas to anyone.

Having neck pain for 2 years after surgery,he was the only doctor that found out that it didn't fuse together . He was so kind . He fixed my neck.

i have a bad back it as a lot of things that i need worked on and he is so nice the 1 time he worked on my back he was so nice and now that i have to get more work done on it he is still nice i went on monday and he wonts me to get a 2 MRI as soon as i can he is a nice DR nice guy

I seen dr. karas for my back pain and he was wonderful. took plenty of time with me and made me feel comfortable. I also really liked Cindy, she was very helpful with helping with my testing and answering all my questions.
