Dr. Chris Carter Nunn, MD

My experience with this anesthesiologist and surgical center was deeply disappointing and concerning. Before my procedure, I was reassured that I would receive twilight anesthesia. However, Dr. Chris Nunn later informed me that intubation and general anesthesia would be the “safest option.” In hindsight, I wish I had trusted my instincts and asked more questions before proceeding. Following what was described as a relatively short and minor procedure, I experienced severe flushing, dizziness, shaking, an intense sore throat, and a significant postoperative headache. The recovery experience was alarming and unlike anything I had experienced after previous surgeries. I have undergone larger procedures in the past with other anesthesiologists and recovered calmly and comfortably, which made this experience especially concerning by comparison. What troubled me most was the disconnect between the reassurance I received beforehand and the care I felt afterward. My concerns about comfort… and postoperative symptoms did not feel taken seriously, and the response I received was simply that “every surgery is different.” While that may be true in some respects, I believe the quality of anesthesia care, communication, and postoperative management also play a major role in patient experience and recovery. I also specifically requested that residents and students not be involved in my care. I left the experience feeling uncertain about whether my wishes were respected, and I intend to formally request documentation regarding operating room personnel for my procedure. Because of this experience, I would not choose to return to Swedish Surgical Services for future procedures. I also found the day surgery facility to be lacking the level of cleanliness, professionalism, attentiveness, and patient-centered care I expected. Patients undergoing surgery are in an extremely vulnerable position and deserve to feel heard, respected, safe, and cared for throughout the entire perioperative process. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I will share with all on all platforms.
