John D. Oswalt, M.D., is a Texas native, originally from Fort Stockton. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and completed his General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery residencies at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Oswalt has practiced with Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons since 1980 and currently serves as president of the group. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Oswalt specializes in adult Cardiothoracic Surgery including heart transplantation, homograft valve replacement, Ross Procedure, mitral valve repair, and minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery. Dr. Oswalt currently serves as Director of Cardiac Surgery at Seton Medical Center. In addition, he organized and remains the head of Cardiac Transplantation at Seton. He has also served as president of the Texas Transplant …Society. Dr. Oswalt was awarded Cardiac Care Provider of the Year in 1999 by the American Heart Association. He is an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Donald Ross Surgical Society, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, and the Travis County Medical Society. Dr. Oswalt has authored many research articles in his specialty. He is also a frequent speaker and surgical instructor on the Ross Procedure.

A life ruined. Six years ago I went to see Dr. Christian Petrulio. I had a good job, I played basketball daily, I had a great wife loved my children. Life was great but I had just this bothersome ache on the ulnar side of my wrist. After looking at the MRI he suggested arthroscopic surgery to see if I had a lunotriquetral tear. After the surgery, he said I did have a lunotriquetral tear but he didn't associate it with my pain but saw a minor issue with my TFCC so he debrided it. After a few days, I never had pain so bad. I called his office and was told he would not see me until I saw a therapist. I saw a therapist and eventually, Dr. Petrulio saw indeed there was some issue. I begged him to fix it after 6 weeks of unbearable pain every second of my life, he agreed to fix what he believed the issue was. So, Dr.Petrulio did a second surgery when I awoke I had this six-inch scar going across the middle of my hand my palm looked puffy and deformed. I had all new… pain neuropathic pain. The pain today is still as bad as it was six years ago. I don't remember what life without pain is like. I haven't been able to use my left hand in 6 years. I've flown to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and seen countless doctors in New York and Texas that won't dear help because it looks so deformed no orthopedic doctor in their right mind wants to get involved. I haven't worked in 6 years since that surgery. And if that wasn't enough because he didn't take my pain seriously enough or wanted to shift the blame he helped convince my wife this had something to do with the way I was handling the post-surgery and his conversations with my wife were very instrumental in her divorcing me. Is it still post-surgery pain six years out? Again, I can not lift anything with my left hand. I came to him with aches from basketball. I left unable to work in 6 years I had to move back with my father 89-year-old father away from my children for the past four years. Well done Dr. Christian Petrulio. You ended my life.

I had carpal tunnel surgery of both hands done by dr. petrulio and my hand's feel new because I don't have the tingling and numbness in them anymore. I now have a new issue with tennis elbow that dr. petrulio has diagnosed me with in my left elbow and I was already diagnosed with tennis elbow in my right elbow by a different hand surgeon. for the left elbow he's making me do physical therapy and if that doesn't work we haven't really talked about what's next but I don't think surgery will be done until probably next year because we have to try all things non-operative first
