Dr. Christina Uriegas Austin, MD

I have cholesterol issues and for the past year, I tried lowering it myself with natural supplements and exercise. Although, it never worked. Dr. Austin is my physician and each time I went in for blood work, I've had to call her office for my results. This coming after about 3 days of time to process the results. Anyone that has gotten blood work done at the lab of Baton Rouge clinic and also uses the "My Charts," knows that the lab results are time stamped upon entry and delivery to the doctor. I've seen both times I've had labs done, that her office has a huge delay in calling and posting in "My Charts" the results. I have never gotten my results, unless I've called. A patient should never have to call for their results and that is concerning to me. I'm now on a medication that she prescribed, which has now arrested and controls my cholesterol issue (which is great). However, I now have to have blood work every three months, which she also only sends for lipid panels,… instead of a full blood work up. I'm not sure if this is common practice with most doctors, but it makes sense to me that if you're going to take my blood, that you'd do a full blood work up. When I called her office about it, the nurse stated that she only orders full blood labs once a year. That doesn't work or make sense to me at all.

I will never see Dr. Austin again. Not only has she misdiagnosed me but I asked what I needed to do to test for an aneurysm and she told me "I don't do that. If it wasn't your mom that had it it doesn't matter." My mother's neurologist recommended I get the test as soon as possible to make sure I don't have a deadly aneurysm.

I moved to Baton Rouge from Texas for school and needed to find a new primary care physician for my ADD and just overall health... I have been battling IBS since middle school and am now 21. However, I have seen many doctors in the past who have not been able to diagnose other internal issues I've been struggling with for some time. I was initially trying to see a specialist for metabolism after believing my symptoms mirrored those of hypothyroidism (thankfully not), but the office said I needed a referral. So, they placed me with Dr. Austin who is very young and easy going, somewhat quiet. I really just needed to get bloodwork done to see if I could get into the specialist I wanted to see, but I was VERY pleased with Dr. Austin's follow up. The same day she personally called me with my test results and we went over a plan of treatment. Even the doctor I saw for 16 years never called my parents or me personally with any testing results, so this REALLY stood out to me. Not only that,… but she even called my dad after I left her a voicemail asking if she would speak to him. I will be keeping Dr. Austin as my primary care physician the remaining time I am living in Baton Rouge for that particular reason, she is so personable and the fact she is really going to help me figure out the root of my undiagnosed problems is such a relief already!
