Dr. Christina Jan Hiebert, MD

I saw Dr. Hiebert during the worst time of my life. I was suffering from Preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome and was very ill at the Kaiser Walnut Creek Hospital. After I was induced, my baby was placed in the NICU for a week. During this time I received multiple blood transfusions. I was physically weak and emotionally taxed. I was released, but had to check back in the same day with a very dangerously high blood pressure. When I was about to be released again, I met Dr. Hiebert and expressed concern to her that I was being released again so soon. I had no desire to stay indefinitely, but I wanted to make sure I would not have to rush myself back into the ER with a sick infant and while trying to recover from a severely traumatic birth, all while feeling very ill and needing to recover. Dr. Hiebert was absolutely awful to me. She seemed angry that I dared to question her medical opinion, even though I was only asking if I was out of the woods. She said "Your odds of seizure have now… decreased exponentially - meaning A LOT, and it's time to GO," her voice disdainful and her sharp glance and smirk indicating she thought I didn't know what "exponentially" meant. She even rolled her eyes at me several times when I asked about my continued symptoms. Even the nurse was shocked and disgusted with how she spoke to me. If I could speak to her again I would tell her that vulnerable people in her care deserve to be treated with kindness and respect, and would remind her that being a doctor does not mean she is the only educated person in the room. I was scared for my baby, scared for myself, exhausted and alone, and she was cruel to me.
