Dr. Christine Alexander-Decker, MD

I recommend avoiding Dr. AD at all costs. I had an appointment nearly one month ago regarding an ongoing issue for which I will need surgery. I had booked the appointment more than a month prior. When I got there, Dr. AD was unprepared; she had not pulled my most recent labs or the DEXA scan that had been performed more than a month prior and, instead, started giving medical advice based upon labs that were more than a year and a half old. I advised her that there were recent labs and a scan and that perhaps her staff could pull them so we could talk about it. I told her that, among other issues, I was concerned because the supplement she had me on corresponded to an exceedingly high blood level. Dr. AD refused to step out or ask her assistant to get my labs. I asked if she would let me call my GP so that I could get the information to her so we could talk about the issues. She told me she had no time for that and escorted me out. When I asked about continuing the supplement in the… face of the high lab result, she told me to just stay on it. After I was escorted to the waiting room, I called my GP's office and was able to get the labs sent to my email within a couple minutes. I asked the nurse if Dr. AD could review my labs or, at a minimum, comment on the one high level corresponding to the supplement she told me to keep taking. The nurse checked with Dr. AD and, upon her return, told me no, Dr. AD had no time for me. It has been nearly one month since my appointment; I have left approximately one message each week, but no one has returned my call. I am, of course, concerned that Dr. AD has me continuing to take that supplement in the face of the very high lab reading - aside from a few other concerning lab readings about which I booked the appointment in the first place. Adding insult to injury, at the appointment, Dr. AD wrote a prescription for a thyroid scan. I was told that the results would be in within 24 hours. Nearly a week later, the nurse called me to advise as to the results. Due to poor cell phone reception, we got disconnected before she could tell me the results. I immediately called back; the nurse did not bother trying to call me back. In nearly one month, I still do not know the results. Apparently, the lack of patient concern permeates the entire practice. As was written by another reviewer, adding insult to injury is the utter coldness of the experience - from the feel of the waiting room to Dr. AD herself. I've never met with a more stoic doctor in my life. The ones I truly feel sorry for are the seniors who tend to feel more frightened and vulnerable and seem to comprise the majority of her patient base. I shudder to think that these poor folk would face such icy disregard in their time of need. I urge anyone reading this review to look elsewhere for an endocrinologist.

I have been to several endocrinologist here in NY and in FL, and Dr. Christine Alexander-Decker is one of the best. She was pleasant, and took the time to explain my medications and tests. She also took the time to listen to all my complaints and concerns. Dr. Alexander-Decker reassured me by explaining how my medications work and alleviated my concerns about side effects. She gave me the names of the different medications available for my illness, and explained how each one work. She left it to me to choose which would work best for me, as I will be doing some research... she told me if I had any further questions we would discuss it during my followup appointment. Dr Decker was dismissive and insensitive when I met with her. She is arrogant and barely looked at me while treating me. Office supervisor was extremely rude and unhelpful when trying to resolving situation.

The best endocrinologist I have been to in over 50 years. Does not rush and answers all my questions.

Having just transfered from a useless uncaring doctor, Dr Decker is as refreshing as Spring. She's caring and listens to my comments and accepts them. What a welcome change from my previous provider.

From the moment she walked in she acted like she had a chip on her shoulder. I had been seeing a PA and was recommended to see a doctor and was set up with her. She treated me with disrespect and got very upset when I shared some areas of concern with my health and asked about some tests that we might run. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. She is very unprofessional.

I was referred by my Doctor for a new pt visit it has been 4 weeks and I have not heard a word called and was told they didnt get the blood work results so dont know if we can see you .You have to understand this is a specialist office and it takes time .Really so called Albany today got an appt in December .Never have been treated like this before and I work in the medical field.I would never send anyone there.

I also did not have a good experience with this Dr. I only went to see her one time due to her curt & strangely defensive manner. During the rather quick new patient visit (under 10 minutes), I related to her what my primary doc had told me about my thyroid issues. She seemed perturbed by that, dismissed me & said, "Then why don't you just see Dr *** for your thyroid", jotted something in the chart & left the room. Frankly, I was bewildered by this person...

In reading these other reviews which say she has a band/poor "bedside manner" I can't help but wonder if they saw another doctor. In the several years I have been going to see Dr Alexander (Decker) she has been extremely helpful and showed concern and caring. My first Thyroid Doctor did nothing for me and Dr Alexander (Decker) got it right the first time. Within a year my issue was under control. She has NEVER been condescending to me as these other people imply.

The office staff is wonderful however, I do not recomend this Doctor. She comes across sweet until you question her. She becomes very defensive. God forbid you say you read this or herd that...I'd urge anyone who has gone to get a copy of your record. She wrote some stuff in mine that couldn't have been further from the truth. Very upsetting experience.
