Dr. Christine Hninpearlwai Chen, MD

I went to see her after finding out that my kidney was in need of care. She said that what caused my kidney to be at level EGFR 46 was in part caused by dyes and that she would put me on medication. She sent me to a vascular specialist to determine if there was any renal blockage. Well while being tested I overheard the technician stating there was significant blockage. When I went to see her after that test she said there was no blockage and that she would treat me with medication. At that point I realized she hadn’t read the report and I made arrangements to see a kidney specialist in New York at Mt Sinai hospital. While flying to New York I had taken the medical file I requested from Dr. Chen and read through the report, it stated I had blockage and she apparently never read it. The specialist at Mt Sinai after I had another vascular test to see if there was blockage told me my renal artery was 85% blocked. He then Operated and placed a stent in my renal artery. He told me had I… not come to him when I did and followed her plan of medication I would have lost that kidney and been on dialysis. My kidney function rose to 56 EGFR after 6 months post surgery and has remained at that level. Kidneys typically do not recover greatly once they have declined. I find Dr. Chen totally incompetent and it could cost you your kidney or life. I strongly suggest you find a qualified kidney specialist which she is not.

Rude receptionist

Front line staff are unable to adhere to basic guidelines for quality of care and customer service. They are rude, inappropriate, and defensive.

Absolutely the most caring and knowledgeable physician !! Her staff was also very courteous.

Did no real physical exam. Just looked at records on computer from my regular doctor. Then Over prescribed medication to me which almost caused my death had it not been for the wonderful medics in the ambulance. Would not recommend anyone go to this doctor. She needs her license revoked!

Dr. Chen is esceptional in her knowledge of Nephrology, and very professional in her practice. She should be comended as a physician. I would highly recommend Dr. Chen.

Dr. Chen had not taken the time to review previous test results before my appointment. When questioned about having the complete test results, she berated me for having "a chip on my shoulder", a phrase she returned to over and over again during our meeting. Initially she overlooked the most significant tests and could not keep straight which kidney was at issue. She initially claimed that she did not need to see the sonogram results, then reversed herself. The more confused she became, the more aggressive she became in trying to distract attention from her failure to adequately review the available tests and patient history. DR. Chen's attitude and lack of preparation was extremely unprofessional and completely destroyed any possible confidence in her. I would not recommend DR Chen to anyone.
