Dr. Christine E Whitten, MD

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1987 after serving 10 years in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. My final rank was Commander. I have practiced anesthesia since 1980. I love to teach and have taught anesthesia students for over 25 years. My medical textbook, "Anyone Can Intubate," is in its fourth edition. It's used to teach intubation (the placement of breathing tubes) and airway management to paramedics, nurses and anesthesia students all over the world. I've written and produced a series of instructional videos on intubation and airway management, doing the filming, editing and animation work myself. I've been an active anesthesia volunteer with plastic surgery teams that provide free surgery for indigent children and adults in Mexico, Vietnam, Honduras, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Colombia, Kenya, and Thailand. It's one of the hardest, but also one of the most rewarding and heartwarming, activities you can imagine.
