Dr. Christopher W. Baird, MD

Following his training in congenital and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Christopher Baird joined the staff at Boston Children’s Hospital, where he is involved in all aspects of congenital heart surgery. He specializes in neonatal cardiac surgery, advanced heart valve repair and reconstruction, and biventricular repairs. His work integrates advanced surgical reconstruction, programmatic leadership, and translational research aimed at improving outcomes for children with the most complex forms of congenital heart disease.
Dr. Baird has expertise in aortic and mitral valve disease, Ebstein anomaly and complex tricuspid valve pathology, and pulmonary valve disease. He leads and participates in clinical trials evaluating pulmonary valve replacement strategies. And he is recognized for his work in complex procedures such as biventricular repairs and left ventricular outflow obstruction.
He has developed a clinical and research focus on rare and highly complex conditions — …including pulmonary vein stenosis and scimitar syndrome — for which he has helped advance new surgical strategies and multidisciplinary care models. He is a pioneer in the treatment of vascular rings and complex airway compression syndromes, having founded one of the first dedicated programs to treat the conditions.
Dr. Baird has also developed and refined surgical techniques in valve reconstruction and complex congenital lesions, with an emphasis on durable repair strategies that meet the needs of a growing child.
