Dr. Christopher Fischer, MD

Dr. Fischer is a board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist with additional fellowship training in forensic psychiatry. With his wide range of experience, he has a strong passion for treating depression and anxiety. An early spark of interest in biology led to exploration around healthcare during his youth. In his junior year in high school, he attended “Mini Medical School," a University of California, San Francisco program that helped the general public see what goes on every day in the health professions. This idea of a career in healthcare continued to percolate, and as an undergraduate, Dr. Fischer completed an internship in public health, at which point he became more interested than ever before in entering the medical field. While originally planning to pursue a surgical career during medical school, he found himself more drawn to psychiatry in his initial psychiatry rotation. He was intrigued by his patients’ stories and their backgrounds and enjoyed gaining an …understanding of their individual paths in life. He liked working with the patients and getting to know their histories, uncovering their struggles as well as their aspirations. He sees psychiatry as an evolving field, similar to other fields of medicine, with many promising advances in the scientific knowledge of the field and treating patients with the most effective treatments possible. He is particularly excited about transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) as a treatment modality given the number of individuals who report that they have not responded or only partially responded to other forms of treatment.
