About Me
I was born in Michigan in the 60’s and grew up on a farmland there in a family of nine- my mom, dad, five brothers and one sister. I was fortunate to attend a good public high school, developed a love of science and went on to college at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. About halfway through my degree work, I took a semester off and attended a professional umpire school. I earned a job and subsequently traversed the country umpiring professional [minor league] baseball for six years. Having satisfied my wanderlust and realizing that I loved books and learning, I returned to the university and graduated with an honors degree in philosophy. I continued my education at the University of Michigan Medical School, where I graduated in 1997 and chose emergency medicine as my career path. I completed a residency in this specialty at the State University of New York at Buffalo in June 2000. Over the years, given my interest in health care policy, I …had become aware of The Permanente Medical Group and its practice model and wanted to join. I thought the Bay Area was one of the most beautiful places I had ever visited. So I joined The Permanente Medical Group in August 2000 and have settled into my practice in Walnut Creek.
Emergency medicine as a specialty is relatively new and was recognized as such by the American Board of Medical Specialties in 1979 when the American Board of Emergency Medicine was established. I enjoy the diversity of cases along with the diagnostic challenge, and I enjoy using my procedural skills. And helping someone in an emergency is often gratifying. I am especially interested in trauma and critical care, use of ultrasound as a diagnostic and procedural tool and the county EMS system.

Ensuring Data Transparency and Trust: A Guide to Vitals Doctor Listings and Reviews
Our provider data is gathered directly from physicians and publicly available databases. Providers who verify their profiles gain the ability to update information, offering additional details about their specialties, education, treated conditions, performed procedures, and accepted insurances.
Reviews on Vitals are submitted by users only. Recognizing the valuable insights these reviews offer into a doctor's reputation, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Importantly, providers cannot delete or alter reviews independently. Reviews can only be deleted or changed following an internal assessment by our customer service team.
Your feedback is highly valued and we encourage you to contact our support team should you encounter any issues.
