Summary
My philosophy in treatment is to consider the patient as a whole. From an orthopaedic standpoint, this would include the patient's lifestyle, his/her general health, age, and activity level. In analyzing the patient, I also look at the patient as a whole so that I can give intelligent advice regarding other issues having to do with the patient's body, mind, or spiritual realm. In orthopaedic surgery, we are treating the patient's musculoskeletal system. This is the part of the body that deals with degeneration and forces and motion. Selecting a treatment is that which restores most closely the normal anatomy and can be achieved. I then choose the treatment that restores the patient's overall mechanics the best. These selections are made both with an eye toward using the patient's self-restoration powers and the application of forces that promise the greatest longevity.
