Dr. Christopher Keith Kelso, MD

My husband,was seen in Integris Baptist ER by Dr. Kelso this evening, 01/06/2024. He was brought in by ambulance from Urgent Care. My husband was seen due to Shortness of Breath and tachypenea. My husband had a CT scan at Canadian Valley last week which noted his pulmonary nodules and a slight opacity in his lower right lung. His condition has continually worsened prompting a visit to his physician yesterday where another CT was done. This CT noted a pulmonary effusion and prominant right hilar lymph nodes measuring up to 13mm (both were new findings) but otherwise was a difficult read and noted that the "more distal pumonary arteries are not well visualized." My husband returned to Urgent Care today to repeat labs from yesterday due to clotting. His D-Dimer was 1090 (almost double the highest number on the recommended range). He also passed out in the doctors office. This is when he was sent to Baptist. Dr. Kelso came in and we explained everything we knew up to this point,… including that his PCP wanted a Pulmonary consult in the ER. He responded by saying, "what will a pulmonary consult do?" To which I responded, "Maybe nothing but we won't know unless we ask." A Chest xray was run and resulted with, "Stable focal consolidation superior segment right lower lobe. Mild hazy densities are also present in both lower lobes and could relate to atelectasis or atypical infection." Again, this is a new finding from previous chest xrays. My husband asked about the D-Dimer, obviously concerned at the risk of a missed Pulmonary Embolism. When confronted about it Dr. Kelso responded, "If it's under 600 we don't worry about it and if it's over we usually scan but I'm not rescanning you." My husband said, "The CT report showed that certain arteries couldn't be well visualized." Dr. Kelso said, "I'm not rescanning you. This is comfort treatment. You probably have pleurisy and it sucks. I'm discharging you." Not only, was this absolutely terrible care. My husband has every symptom of a PE and his condition is only worsening. Dr. Kelso's refusal to investigate the increased D-Dimer puts my husband at risk of a missed PE due to previous visibilities of prior CT scan, amongst other risks. This is a life threatening risk that he denied care for. My husband has come home still unable to breath well, short of breath, dizzy, lightheaded, tachypenic, and in pain. I am praying nothing happens overnight. However, this Doctor's lack of care puts the Emergency department and this hospital at risk and needs to be reviewed and investigated.
