Dr. Christopher Quinn May, MD

Went to the ER with a temperature that kept peaking over 103 F and a wheezing cough for over a month. Dr. May ordered a reasonable set of lab tests and also a chest X-ray. He quickly diagnosed me with acute bronchitis and gave me antibiotics and cough medicine. However, he overlooked the elephant in the ER room. He repeatedly tried to explain to me, with less and less patience, that this was just the flu. Each time I tried to differentiate my symptoms from the flu, he just cut me off. A week later, I was hospitalized for 8 days with bacterial sepsis. If only he would have more seriously considered what I said, or perhaps ordered a blood culture to check for bacteria in my blood, I might not have the heart condition I have today, and would not have missed so much work as to be put on low priority for work for six months.

While on vacation in Green Valley, Az I had to visit the emergency room. Dr. May was very caring and thorough in his discussions with me. He reassured me with the tests results. He was a very caring doctor.

Spent maybe 10-15 minutes total during a nearly 2 hour hospital stay. Proper diagnosis came from spouse versus Doctor's diagnosis. Unethically billed separately from hospital, after fully paying hospital bill.

Dr. May was my ER Doctor recently and his kind manner as well as skill in drilling down to the problem I was having made the whole experience a very less unpleasant one. I feel very lucky to have had him watching over me that day.

It is close to impossible to feel as if a night in the ER (in any hospital anywhere) is anything less than a preview of one of the circles of Hades; but for the intervention of Dr. May I was spared the usual terrible routine because - whatever else he is as an MD - he is first and foremost a humane individual. That alone sets him apart from many of his peers. I've had the occasion to meet many many ER doctors over the past 20 years and take my word for it - Christopher May is one of the best.
