Dr. Christopher Gene Okiishi, MD

Dr. Christopher Okishi is the finest physician, I have ever seen. I started seeing him 6 -7 years ago. At that time, I was going through a horrible divorce, I was sobbing 24/7 and was suicidal. A close friend, a physician, got in touch with Dr. Okishi and explained what I was going through. As busy as he was, he worked my into his schedule, the next morning. I found him to possess an amazing sense of empathy. He spent an hour with me, assessing my state of mind and successfully, at least for the moment "walked me away from the cliff." He took copious notes and discovered my father, his father, my brother, my father's brothers, my father's sister and his mother, all suffered from serious clinical depression and several had been diagnosed as being bipolar. Dr. Okishi diagnosed me with clinical depression and got me on meds immediately. However, he was very concerned, I too, demonstrated many of the traits of someone, who is bipolar. He gave me some reading suggestions and saw me twice… a week for the next month. He did diagnose me as being bipolar. After that, I saw him 2 - 3 weeks. Now, after seeing Dr. Okishi for 6 -7 years, I see him every 2 months. He is very busy and his ONLY responsibility at Meadowlark is to manage patients medications. His role is not to have you lay on a couch and profess, to be Freud. His job is to get you on medications, that will help you and then manage those meds, to make certain, they don't interfere with any other medications you are taking. For the person, who stated they saw Dr. Okishi, only once and he failed, to get back to her, I would say, you are irresponsible.YOU need to take care of your own health, physical and mental. It was your responsibility, to reach out and maintain your own care plan and schedule visits, to all of your doctors. It was NOT Dr. Okishi's responsibility, to "wet nurse" you, to make sure, you continued your therapy. That responsibility falls on your shoulders.....you are the one, who is accountable for your own health. Don't criticize Dr. Okishi, for your inability or refusal, to follow up with your care. I'll bet you didn't even realize, you needed to see a therapist, in conjunction with your visits with Dr. Okishi. There is no "magic pill" for mental illness. I t takes years of therapy and self evaluation. If you want to get better, you need to be the one, to step up and again, realize your overall health rests on your shoulders. Chris Okishi is an absolutely fabulous physician.

He saw me for about 20 minutes, diagnosed me w/ bipolar 2, prescribed Lamotrigine, haven't seen him since. It's been 2 years. He just keeps refilling my meds when the pharmacy calls him.

I feel that he is not genuine and acts fake. Even on our first visit I feel that he didn't ask enough questions to understand me. Then every visit I had with him he was in a hurry and I would get 5 minutes with him tops! Very flighty! His bedside manner stinks! You'd be better off spending your money elsewhere!

I only saw Dr Okiishi twice and there is a reason why I only saw him twice. He seem very aloof or just socially inept. I felt like I was being judged (I'm not a paranoid person). Maybe others can connect with him but I sure didn't feel it.

Dr. Okiishi is a genius! He has helped all three of my children. Medication is prescribed when your brain is not functioning correctly. He gets it!
