Dr. Christopher T Plastaras, MD

I have been seeing him for about 2 years. His staff has been very cooperative in scheduling appointments for me and he has always taken the time necessary to listen to me and offer his opinions and treatment recommendations.

Dr. Plastaras is knowledgeable, supportive and caring. He take time for diagnosis and offers comfort and answers. My experience with him and his fellow was very positive. I am very grateful to have been referred to him.

I’ve been going to Dr. Plastaras for 4 years & couldn’t ask for a better Physiatrist. He cares for the entire patient, not just a body part. Utilizes his Fellows appropriately so they develop their diagnostic skills under his guidance. Dr Plastaras excels with diagnostic injections & nerve ablations, they are almost painless. After procedures always came into recovery to check on the results, gives out his cell phone # for if a problem develops. He’s excellent in every way possible, both as a physician and a genuine person. An asset to the medical profession, a 100% approval rating for Dr. Plastaras. I’m an RN and.will leave a physicians care immediately if they don’t treat people with respect, don’t have a kind bedside manner or are a poor diagnostician . Therefore I will stay with Dr. Plastaras as long as I need a Physiatrist. He expects perfection & delivers it.

Bedside manner is saying he doesn’t care.

I have actually been examined by him briefly, once. All other work is done by zFellows, including injections. He does supervise. No one I have spoken to in the medical community finds that acceptable, yet he gets away with it.

I came to Penn with an 11 year old spinal injury that I consulted multiple spine specialists for, all of whom recommended fusion surgery at this point in my injury. I waited over 2 months for an appointment to see Dr. Plastaras, with the hope that he would be able to stear me in the right direction for treatment. I saw one of his students and his fellow (Ilya Igolnikov who was wonderful, he is the only one who took the time to go through my medical history and physically examine me.) Dr. Plastaras cam into the exam room, didn't ask me anything about my history, began to speak to me in a very condescending tone making me feel like I was uneducated (I work in the medical field and have done extensive research on my injuries and issues in the last 11 years), I listened to everything he had to say because I did not want to be rude, but when I told him I was there more for a surgical consult, he became very agitated and asked me "Do you want a doctor new in practice or someone who has been… in practice for years?" I was so shocked and put off by his callousness I couldn't answer. His response was "I'll refer you to someone who's been in practice for a long time, but he is very busy and if he doesn't think you're case is bad enough he doesn't need your business" then he just left the room and left me with his fellow. ...I was so overwhelmed and upset I began to cry. I am so highly disappointed and angry at how he treated me as a client versus a patient that I will be leaving reviews of my experience on any and every site I can. Dr. Plastaras is an ego inflated jerk who should show much more empathy to his patients.

Was looking forward to my appt. because of the extreme pain that I was encountering. However, I never really saw Dr. Plastaras. The resident met with me and gave me an incorrect diagnosis based only on my feedback. Dr. P. walked into the room and never even examined me. He spoke to resident and then gave me a script for PT. I went elsewhere and my new doctor prescribed an MRI after the exam. The MRI revealed issues that the resident did not pick up. The PT script that Dr. P. gave to me would have made my issues even worse because that was not the problem. How incompetent!! How can he not examine a patient!

It is unbelievable that Dr. Plastaras is head of the Penn Rehab Dept. for Physical Rehab., Sports medicine... Booking an appt. with him takes months. Being examined & conversing with him takes seconds. A Resident asked a few questions, put MRI & other reports into computer. Dr. Plastaras finally entered room. Never examined me. Only conferred with conferred Redident. He only used MRI & x-rays for his diagnosis and a prescription for Physical Therapy. He made NO clinical observations. I had many other injuries and pain that his examining me would have revealed. Therefore, the Physical Therapist that I saw for months made my condition worse by exercises that I should not have been doing, thanks to Dr. Plastaras' recommendation. It has been a year and the damage caused by lack of correct diagnosis of multiple injuries made worse will now require surgery. Dr. Plastaras needs to be re-evaluated by Penn Medicine. He is incompetent and uncaring. Also, he never really spoke to… me--only spoke to resident. How rude!!!

Waited 2 months for an appointment. Dr. Plastaras stopped in room only to speak with resident. Never even spoke to me or greeted me. Resident gave me an incorrect diagnosis. Went to someone else, thank goodness. Was diagnosed and treated like a human being, Unfortunately, too much time had passed--waiting for appt. with Dr. Plastaras and new doctor--which made my condition and healing time worse.

I had a great experience w/ Dr. Plastaras over a period of several years. He patiently and accurately diagnosed what was causing my nerve pain, carefully explained the options, and his recommendations worked. However, it takes forever to get an appointment with him and on several occasions I was seen by a resident instead. The resident was terrible.
