Dr. Christopher R Smart, MD

I went in to ER because of severe pains in both knees, but was really concerned about lower right severe back pains I had for almost three weeks. Ask to have knees and right lower back scaned. All was taken was a urine sample and blood. I sat in room for two hours when Nurse walked and said Dr. Smart only approved knee xrays. I asked about lower back also. Dr. Smart came in and said because I didn’t have an infection based on the only two tests taken that he wouldn’t do anything for my lower right back area, which was so painful I could hardly move or walk. He was very flustered and impatient and I have seen many doctors in my time and have NEVER been treated so rudely! Dr. Smart told me if I’m not willing to do knee xrays then he would sign my release papers, then stormed out of my room. The Nurses and Staff that checked me in were kind and courteous, but I will NEVER go back to Providence Seaside Hospital again. I have amazing Medical Insurance and had rights to have an opinion about… my own body. Now I have to drive in to Portland way to get help for my medical needs. Dr. Smart should NOT be in the medical field! He has no patience or caring bedside manner. I feel for people who come to his ER and waste time like I did.

If ever you need a doc with an encyclopedic knowledge, an unflappable demeanor, and who can put you at ease, the place you'd want all that is in the ER. We're in luck because Dr. Smart is all that at Providence Seaside ER. Great communication skills: he engages in what you think is just a normal conversation and the next thing you know, he's pulled all the information he needs out of you and you thought it was the usual meet-and-greet chat. Can't give him high enough marks... they got five star to choose from, but he deserves 10.
